So happy I finally bought this
Im really impressed with this lunch box so far. We've been in school for about 2 weeks now and I have loved the challenge of filling each compartment. Its weirdly satisfying coming up with my daughters lunches. It holds a lot of food, my daughter is a great eater and always hungry and this holds more than enough. She usually has a 1/4 to 1/3 leftover from lunch that she eats when she gets home, which is fantastic for me, because I prepare it once and get two 'meals' for her out of it. She loves the colors and the variety she gets in her lunch, and her little friends comment on it too. I love that we're not having to rely on disposable bags etc, and the containers hold well. A time or two after lunch of my daughter hasn't finished something juicy, like berries, and doesn't get the lid completely sealed, it will leak into the larger container but hasn't come out of the actually box into her lunch carrier so thats great. I just rinse it each night, and hand wash whenever necessary although it says its also dishwasher safe, and pack it up the night before. The next day I'm happy knowing my kid has a lot of yummy and healthy food, in an eco friendly, safe, and cute container. They're tons of ideas for filling bento style lunch boxes like these and I'm already getting better. My daughter loves the surprise of seeing what I packed each day. I resisted buying this because it was pricey but It when I couldn't find something that met my criteria i went ahead and purchased thinking i would send it back of it wasn't what I was looking for. It fits great in this years gap insulated lunch carriers. I stick it in the large opening add a square ice pack, and juice box/ pouch and a snack in a stainless container with a small water bottle in the front pocket and the food is still cool when she gets home from school.

I think this system is great! Love the different sizes of the containers & colors. The box is so cute it's actually fun to pack the perfect portioned meal. The box does have a few downsides, you have to pack your containers in there just right or the lid of the main box won't stay closed. I wish the main box was a little bit bigger, just the height really. I would love to stick a whole orange or apple in there. The smallest size container that I use for sauces or dressings can't be filled to the brim because the lid dips down into the container, had a few messing mornings with stuff dripping down the sides. Also the lid for the smallest size doesn't shut all the the way. I've ended up using my tupperware along with the bento boxes to make sure I don't have a mess by the time I get to lunch. Other then that I love the concept & it has helped me portion my food out better while doing weight watchers.

Zero stars
I bought these and the supplementing kit with extra containers. They do not clean well from sauces or oil. The little sauce container is VERY hard to open and close with adult hands and I open food containers ALL DAY LONG as my job.The corners are very VERY hard to clean. The main box is difficult to close shut so food ends up spilling outside the case. Also, the container lids do not close easily either. When you open the main case of the lunch box, there is liquid from the fruit spilling out into the main bento lunch box. My 8 year old son HATES this lunch box. Even though glass is heavier, he much prefers me sending him to school with 4 glass lock and lock containers. At least with glass, he can easily see what is what inside each container. This set is for lazy parents who throw them into the dishwasher and who don't do hand washing. Cleaning the corners and lids requires soaking them in vinegar and scrubbing them twice with dishwashing liquid. Even then, there is STILL that greasy film/residue. Not even the cheap disposable/reusable Ziplock containers do this.I now have 9 unusable bento ware containers. I am telling everyone not to ever purchase this set. I wish I can return it and receive my $35 back!

On the Fence
First off we are grown ups and not using these for kids so our lunch containers generally don't take on much heavy abuse and I intend on hand washing regardless. I've been looking for new lunch ideas and more portioned and compact lunch containers for work (with a long commute on public transit). I bought us one to try and we have each had one day and at this point I'm on the fence. It is overpriced - that is just a fact. Though that seems to be the trend with all the 'bento' style lunch boxes. I picked this one specifically over other ones for the sole reason that it was made in USA and bpa free. For me it is actually a lot bulkier than I want. For him he was wanting covers on everything (would be nice) since the box part doesn't really airtight seal the tops of the open containers - there is space. The silverware holder is a great idea but doesn't actually fit regular size silverware. Think food service plastic fork size (we tried a plastic fork at the office and that was a good fit) but nothing from my home kitchen fits - i suppose if I had desert size forks that would fit but I don't. I used that spot instead for other snacks for the day - fit a string cheese, fruit leather and small serving of almonds. The corners of the container need to be checked to make sure they are snapped closed. Food in open containers will shake around and leak if it's not a solid - if closed right not outside the outer box but surely inside around all the small containers....unless you intend on holding it flat and level all day (we tend to put our lunch boxes in our bags sideways like you would a book.)I found it a bit clumsy getting out the one cup that needed to be microwaved when full. The hinge on the lid will definitely break at some point even with careful use.I'm going to give 5 stars for the lunch ideas on the company's website - that has been the most useful to me in this purchase is finding the website and all the recipes with photos of how they are portioned out. The box itself - I don't think I'll opt for a second one so we each have one but rather throw this in the rotation until the hinge on the outer box breaks and look at other options in the meantime.
