Works well with the E17
There's really not a whole lot to be said about this LOD. It allows you to use the Lineout Bypass on the Fiio E7 and E17 so you can use those devices as DACs and bypass the amplifier portion. I specifically used this with the E17, and it worked fine. Occasionally, it wasn't recognized and I had to unplug it and re-plug, but that was very rare. It functioned fine and I was pleased with the E17 as a DAC paired with my Schiit Magni and my Little Dot MKIII.However, it is made of cheap, cheap, cheap plastic. It's small enough to be sturdy from impact, but it's still super cheap looking. It's an eyesore next to something like the E17, which is a beautiful little piece of hardware. It would be five stars if not for the materials/build quality.

If you have an E17 already and want a line out, then I highly recommend the L7
I've had this for over a half year now and I have to say it really is a great product. I usually dock my laptop to a desk and use an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard, however the internal audio codec on my laptop just doesn't cut it for my liking. I already owned a FiiO E17 that I use to power my Sennheiser PC 350 with. However, I decided to buy a really nice 2.0 computer speaker system and wanted to use the DAC in my E17 and not the amplifier as to have a nice clean sound on my speakers. That's where I decided to buy the L7. It works extremely well and the best part is switching between headphones and external speakers is just the difference of powering on or off my 2.0 speaker system. All you have to do on the E17 is grab a pen/pencil and move the slider on the side to LO BYPASS. This let's the L7 send a line level signal with no amplification. It does not affect the headphone out port at all so I leave it at LO BYPASS 100% of the time. All I have to do is plug the L7 into the E17 and USB cable into the L7. It will still charge the E17 and can still be used for headphone out. The gain, volume, bass, and treble options on the E17 will only affect the headphone out and not the line out on the L7. Which is what I want since the external speakers have their own treble, bass, and volume control. What's nice is if I want to use my headphones and I have my speakers running, all I have to do is turn the volume knob on my speakers to off and put my headphones on. And if I want to do the opposite, just turn the volume knob to on on my speakers and take off my headphones. Audio will play through the headphones still when it is lining out to the external speakers so if you don't want that to happen (or if you hear the audio coming from the speakers), just unplug the headphone jack or turn down the volume on the E17, it won't affect the line out to the external speakers in anyway. The only time you have to unplug the L7 is if you want to use the Auxiliary in port (from a preamp for example).I highly recommend the L7 if you already have a FiiO E17 and want to have the nice high fidelity audio this device produces but in a line level form for either a separate amplifier or external speaker system. If anyone is wondering, the 2.0 speaker system I use is the Creative GigaWorks T20 Series II. It works great and sounds amazing in conjunction with it.

Fiio L7. . .Two different ones have broken two Fiio E17's
A while back, I purchased a Fiio E17 and wanted to connect my speakers to it. I purchased the L7 connector. The connector is very flimsy and loosely rocks in the port on the bottom of the E17. A few days after receiving the first L7, it broke my E17. I don't know what happened, but returned it for a refund and sent my E17 to be fixed. Recently, I wanted to hook up speakers to my E17 at work so I ordered another L7. It worked for a couple of weeks and today, my E17 will no longer turn on.My only guess is that inserting/removing the L7 from the E17 somehow causes damage to the internal workings of the E17. I will admit it's possible that I'm doing something wrong. . .but plugging and unplugging the device is not rocket science and it's happened with two separate L7. For the price, the L7 not working is not a life changer. . .but ruining two E17's is unacceptable.

Works great
Fiio makes a matching desktop amp for the E7, but if you'd prefer to use something else (like a tube amp or a stereo receiver), this product will give you a proper line out signal to get the best audio quality from the DAC.In my case, I've owned the E7 for a couple of years, and it's a great portable DAC/AMP for train rides and laptop use. However, I bought a Bellari HA540 tube amp for my desk at work, because I wanted to have the warmer analog sound, power beefier (non-portable) headphone, and tubes just look cool :)This L7 adapter allowed me to use my existing E7 DAC for my computer and run a good line level signal into the HA540. If you own an E7 and want flexibility in how the signal is amplified, this is a no-brainer. It's a lot cheaper than buying another DAC altogether.

This adapter is essential if you want to connect to a stereo receiver or preamp
I have this connected to my FiiO E7 dac and a stereo preamp that feeds music from my computer (iTunes) over the stereo system in my living room. It works great, but if I were to change anything it would be to build it more solid instead out of cheap plastic. I would also allow a slight air gap connection between the base of the E7 and the Line out doc to accommodate cables with fatter RCA plugs. However, I am part of the plastic generation, so I guess I will have to live with the fact that everything is made of plastic; even the laptop I am typing this review on now.Bottom line is that it does what it is suppose to do and I would recommend it for someone needing to connect the DAC to their steror system through a line out connection rather then having to go through the headphone.

Kind of cheap
Works like it should. Might take some work to get it plugged in correctly. Best suited for home use because of its wonky connection.

Meh
Attaches to FiiO to provide a line-out dock. Very cheap connection--feels like it's going to fall apart. I returned it all because I could could not establish any improvement doing blind A-B tests. Don't waste your time and money!

does the job
i use it with a fiio e17 to connect to a speakers amplifier.the e17 has an switch to bypass the amplifier. when this is selected, when this is selected, changing the volume on the e17 won't have effect and the e17 only works as a DACthe L7 is small, the connection is ok, but not great and the build quality is also nothing great. good for the price
