It depends. First, your rifle will need a bayonet lug on the gas block/front sight. Second, it will need to be fitted with an A2 style flash hider or a muzzle device that is otherwise compatible. Finally, the gas system length will determine the final fitment. Rifes with mid- and rifle-length gas systems with the first two features should be able to affix the bayonet without issue. Carbine length gas systems won't be able to mount the bayonet without an adapter (which according to Google apparently exist) on the most common 16" barrels. Sorry for the long-winded non-answer, but hopefully this info will help as a starting point for you to learn more about your firearm. (I would call Smith and Wesson customer support as they should be able to help you identify if your rifle has the features I have mentioned above.)

Affirmative, it's molded into the handle near the pummel end on one side and on the reverse side "USMC". "COMBAT USMC" is also rolled stamped on the blade next to the hilt. The bayonet fits only rifles with mil-spec bayonet lugs, e.g., Colt M4.

Remember this item was designed to fit a M-16 or M-4 Colt that has the bayonet lug located so that the bayonet goes around the standard birdcage flash hider when it is locked into the lug. Most M-4 rifles that are not a SBR have a 16" long barrel in lieu of the standard 14" long M-4 barrel so the bayonet will fit but the loop will not stop at the flash hider, but will go passed onto the barrel. If you have a standard flash hider the Ontario will fix, but will have some movement due to having a 16" long barrel. Hopes this info helps. It work great on any barrel lug that stops the loop on the flash hider.
