Best Developer, Period
This is my all time favorite developer, and I have tried MANY. This is the only developer that doesn’t cause that burning bleach scalp feeling that I loathe. Wonder of wonders! After processing my hair for twenty five years, IONs developer simply wins across the board. I use it with L’Oréal Quick Blue (lightens better and faster than any other powder I have tried).I have been bleaching and using fantasy colors in my hair since I was a teen, and I usually strip my re growth twice a year. My hair is a level two, so it is quite a process using forty and thirty developer several times to get it to a level eight, nine, or ten before applying colors (level determined by which colors I intend to use). I bleach with forty developer twice, and thirty once every time I have to do my roots/ re growth because my hair is so dark and resistant.During this process, I apply coconut oil the night before bleaching (saturate the hair, leave it in, and throw a towel over your pillow!) and I apply bleach directly over my oiled hair the next day. I use ION’s sensitive scalp developer, and L’Oréal quick blue powder. I don’t recommend other powders or developers. I add ION step 1 to the powder and developer, which is a cheaper, more accessible version of Olaplex 1. After rinsing the bleach I work in ION step 2, leave in for five minutes, then rinse and apply Olaplex (either 2 or 3). The Olaplex gets left in my hair overnight, and in the morning I apply a generous amount of MorrocanOil. The following day I wash, and then I repeat this entire process starting with the coconut oil. Takes a while, because I have to bleach and process three times using forty developer twice and thirty once to get the results I want, but my hair doesn’t fall out or turn into spaghetti or a fried mess. You CAN get great results at home with patience and good products. I’ve had stylists chemically burn my scalp, and also fry my hair, and the truth is: I do a better job doing my color at home. Don’t cut corners, find out what level your hair color is, use the correct developer, and take your time.Hope this helps some folks embrace the joys of unicorn hair!
