I run in the original Five Fingers with the smooth sole but wanted something grippier to hike in. The Spyridion LS work great and have been all over the White Mountains with me. Wet days are not where these shoes shine, obviously, but do my legs and feet ever feel great after an all-day hike! None of that feeling of dragging cinder blocks around on your feet that you get after wearing regular hiking boots for long periods of time. I run in these now, too, and they work just as well for that. A word of warning, if you need arch support, Five Fingers may not be for you. And do take it slowly if you're new to these, you will find muscles at the back of your calves that you didn't quite know existed. How will you find them? They will hurt, a lot, and be very, very tight. So build up and streeeeeetch those calves.

Not great for thin instep
I'm a big fan of the five-fingers. I bought a standard pair (forgot the name) several years ago, and love them! Been running in them for a few years, but the sole wasn't thick enough for trail running. The sole is starting to wear out now, too.So, I thought an upgrade to the Spyridon's would be better, since I live in Colorado now. But, the lacing system is no good for my thin & narrow feet. I am returning them, and will try the velcro strap version. The lacing system didn't tighten up the instep area. It felt balloon-y.Also, the thicker soles made the fit from heel to big toe a little tight. I was hoping that would stretch a bit with wear.If you have skinny feet with no "meat", then be wary of the lace-up system.

Opening proved too small for a human foot
My wife bought these. She is very slim, and the length and width both seemed right for her, yet it proved impossible for her to squeeze her feet in through the openings. These shoes were simply impossible to try on, much less stand up in, much less take even one step in. Many people have said wonderful things about Fivefingers shoes and we believe those folks are sincere, so we won't give these only one star. The low ratings is simply to warn you that, if you're thinking of buying your first pair of these, you will need to try them on, in a number of different sizes, in a shoe store, rather than trying to use mail order.

Great for a mud run!
I bought these shoes for a mud run and they were fantastic! They fit well, and I actually love the laces (they don't tie but have a locking clip) because some of the Bikila fit a little too tight initially.. They got extremely muddy but washed to like new in the washer on cold. Can't wait to use them for hiking now that the race is over!

First pair!
This is my first pair of Vibrams. I am very pleased with my order. At first it feels weird but then you get very used to it. Where have these been all my life?I really like the colors. It is not as orange as they appear. I would def recomend these to a friend.

I ordered item as pictured ( velcro ) but received a different product of same color. I'm going to keep the product however I believe this is deceitful advertising.

excellent but be careful with the size...
I walk with them for three days in the desert, a trip of 40 km / 25 miles, excellent. Additionally I run with them on the ground and they are very well built. pay attention to shoe size because they are at least two dimensions smaller then a regular shoe size.
