Cheap electronics
I already had the direct connect system which was great, but I wanted the controls so I bought this. Seemed great when I tested it at home, and was working perfect for about an hour on the mountain. The volume control must be a very cheap potentiometer and is very sensitive. My music would cut in and out, crackle, and play out of only one side. I kept having to mess with the volume dial to find a spot where it sounded good, but it only lasted for a minute. It got to the point that it was too annoying while I was skiing that I just stopped playing music. I guess I'll go back to the direct cord for now, or I'll try some contact cleaner spray on the button and volume dial. Really a bummer - great concept, but unfortunately it just doesn't work like it should.

What the Heck ?
I bought two - one for my wife, one for myself. NEITHER of these work. I tried using in my iPhone4 and my nano 5g. I get sound, sometimes volume control works, and the clicker button doesn't work in either.Plus - they don't give instructions on how to install into helmet. I know there's a zipper area - but where does the connector hang out of ??? You have to zip from one side to the other, so it can't hang out of the middle.I'm really disappointed - I bought the smith helmet just for this sound system. I had the old version where you buy ear pads which built in speakers, but the controller kept shorting out so I'm trying this. I'm returning both the helmet and the sound system.I hope smith is paying attention !!

Total garbage - no more skullcandy products for me
I've owned both Giro and Smith helmets and both brands rely on skullcandy to provide integrated auido for their helmets. After tiring of the Giro/skullcandy systems breaking/shorting out after a few weeks I decided to try the Smith/skullcandy helmet with the Singleshot audio system. This one didn't work right out of the box.The speakers will play, but the button on the controller doesn't work at all. It doesn't answer the phone, won't advance or pause a song, and appears to be of typical skullcandy low quality. I tried the system with an Iphone, ipod nano, and an ipod classic. Nothing works.I'm done with Skullcandy products! Smith/Giro/k2/others, please find a different partner for audio.

nice headphones with a mic and volume control
These are decent headphones for the price. Not audiophile quality, but pretty good. The lows are attenuated below about 28hz, but the sounds is clear and there is minimal distortion even at high volume (with a iPhone 4S as the source)The nicest thing about the headset is the single button on the detachable cable. It can be used to answer calls (single click while the phone is ringing), forward to the next song (double click while a song is playing), pause the music (single click while the music is playing), invoke Siri (hold the button down in any mode). The volume control has a bonus feature. Turn the volume control all the way down past the detent and it turns the headset into a monaural set.My callers describe the mic quality as good, with a fair bit of wind noise. The only complaint I have about the set was the lack of a instruction manual and the lack of any left and right markers anywhere on the earphones. The only way to tell which was left and which was right was to use test tones.FWIW, the monaural mode is left side only.On my 2010/2011 Smith Variant brim helmet the installation was very easy. Simply unzip the earpad, slide the headphones in and route the cable out the left grommet hole.

Does it's job like it's supposed to
Our family owns three of these that we use in our Smith ski helmets. We have used them 25+ days per year for the last two years without any problems. I'm not an audiophile, so the speakers may not be the absolute highest fidelity out there, but they can be turned up quite loud with minimal distortion and sound great to me. The cord with the clicker mic is great. We use them plugged into our iPhones and it is nice to have a big button that can still be used with thick ski gloves on to skip a song, start and stop the music, answer a phone call, etc. It is EXTREMELY convenient to be able to quickly turn off the music when someone starts to talk to you on the lift or skip a lame song while you're flying down the mountain. I've wrecked pretty hard face first in deep powder more than once and skied in very cold temperatures and the clicker has never stopped working. I don't think it's advertised as water resistant or environmentally sealed, but I have yet to have one poop out on me and we've used them a lot! The only thing that is a bit difficult to do with thick gloves on is to change the volume. I would definitely buy this again and have recommended it to friends.

Worked well
Just unpacked them, plugged them into my iPhone and they played just fine but the inline mic switch did not work. Seeing as there are no instructions or illustrations figured let me try switch it around as the mic line has 2 male ends on it. After switching the other way around everything worked as advertised. Box has wiring schematic but does not show which end goes to helmet and which end to phone. Have worked very well.

Broke after 2 days skiing
I purchased this along with a new Smith helmet recently. On the second day, the song advance feature stopped working, and the mute works sporadically. These are extremely poor quality.

Didn't work out of the box
My Single Drop headphones wont perform any of the actions; skip, pause etc. right out of the box. I've heard Skull Candy has great customer service, but they may need to do something about whatever Chinese vendor is manufacturing these things.
