Beautiful and Functional
Application: 30” Island mount 8’ ceilingUsed in recirculating mode over a new 30” Wolf dual fuel rangeThis unit is heavy, sturdy, substantial—impressive. We had it professionally installed — 2 people 5 hours; had to run electricity. Unit is 341/2” over range top.You will need to purchase ceiling mounted trim pieces (in stainless steel) and two carbon filters, if you need to run unit in recirculating mode. I could not find either part on Amazon, I called Z-line, and they directed me to a vendor who sold both parts—get the part #.Very beautiful, not unacceptable db levels, controls on both sides. Worth the extra bucks. If I could have one thing improved, I would like the unit to be just a tiny bit more quiet. But it is 400 com, so you need a certain amount of suction noise to get the job done. The filtration works well.I’d buy it again. I’m recommending this.

Noisy and broke in one year
This unit was loud when it worked. Which was less than a year. First the lights started to blink and eventually it stopped working altogether. After doing some research I found blinking is a common problem caused by a sensor. The sad part is that it was only used for a few hours. The only upside is that it is styled well.

Very attractive and efficient range hood for our range that has a window behind it.
The manufacturer states that the unit, as sold, will fit ceilings 8'-9' without an adapter kit. This is true but not with the full range of heights from the stove top. My ceiling is 8'3'' and we had to collapse the hanging structure as much as possible which is 29" from ceiling to top of hood. The slim hood is just over 2" high. This places the vent 33" above the counter top or burner. Hence, if you have an 8' ceiling the highest you can get the vent is 30". I had hoped to have mine at 35"-36' above the range to give me more head room. I am 5'9" tall and the elegant curved glass hood works out fine for me as, in the center, the hood is 71" above the floor. However at the corners, the height is only 67" but that has not been a problem. I think this should be made more clear in the online product information as it is important in knowing whether the shorter kit should be used. If I had 8' ceilings, I would not be happy with the height of the hood above the range. As several reviewers have mentioned, it is not easy to hang the 65 pound unit from the hanging structure that is mounted to the ceiling. We had one large, strong installer who could stand in the alcove where the new range was to go and support the unit on his shoulder/back while bent over as the second installer fastened the 8 nuts and bolts. One reviewer commented that he had built a temporary table that spanned the alcove and supported the unit while he attached the nuts and bolts. This is a safer way to go but requires building a table from scrap lumber and using shims to adjust the height. The unit comes with an expandable plastic vent pipe to go inside the stainless steel sleeve that encases the fan motor and the exhaust pipe and then attaches to an owner supplied exhaust system venting to the exterior. You might want to check your building codes to see if a plastic exhaust pipe is allowed above a stove. It is not allowed in my city so the installer used a sheet metal pipe all the way from the fan unit to the exterior vent. The decibel ratings stated by the manufacturer for the fan noise, I think, are not accurate. Though not overly loud on low it is well above a "whisper" and the high speed is as loud as my previous down draft exhaust but far more efficient. "Low" is certainly adequate for most exhaust uses. The attaching hardware of screws, nuts, and bolts that come with the unit are of low quality. You might want to buy better ones. When it is all installed, it is an elegant and handsome unit that definitely updates our kitchen and does not block the window at the back of the range.

Quiet and nice on the eyes
Pros:The hood has very minimal visual weight in the room. The design and lines of the hood are quite nice. The blower is also very quiet on the first two settings (as these things go) and as good as it gets on the higher settings. I don't think I've run into a quieter one. The suction seems to be good, but I haven't put it through a super smoky test. The lighting is nice as well. Without reading any instructions it is easy to operate and has buttons on both sides of the hood.Cons:If you have an 8 foot ceiling the hood will be mounted 30" above the stove, no options on that (unless you feel like reworking some brackets).Be aware:The mounting instructions are adequate, but general. One end of the stainless steal chimney is curved; make sure this is on the bottom to get a good meshing with the hood (pretty terrible if you don't figure that out until everything is mounted and attached). Unless you already have an island hood you may need to get an outlet installed and add additional support in the ceiling to screw the mounting bracket to. Attaching the hood to the mounting brackets will take two people and ideally three.

well worth it
I researched this product for quite a while prior to purchase..I am very happy with the quality, look and construction and functionality of this hood...other than having no name on it...people think it cost me every bit of 1500 to 2000$.. Shipping was fast and although it is not exactly the same as the pic it is great...the fan is a little louder that way higher priced hoods...the ss is thick and the lines clean and well done..I have friends who flip houses and they are going to buy from here from now on...BTW...I have used for allmost a month now...it has more features than listed...4 speeds and seperate on/off for fan and light...and built in timer on the off buton that allows the fan to run for 3 min after you turn it off so you can just walk away..

Anything butbZ-line which could care less after sale
Is it possible to give a minus 5 (-5) review or lower? This company provides NO customer support, noPhones answered, no call returned. If you get through (by chance or luck), the uncooperative person on the other hand will run you around in circles and tell you that there is no one to correct the lights in the range hood that do not work!!! Good luck. Look elsewhere, anywhere but not Z-line.
