Easy to sharpen and so far durable
This stuff just keeps getting more expensive. I use this spear tip primarily and it works well. Easy to sharpen and so far durable. I use the JBL northwest special gun along the Oregon coast line. The terrain is very rocky and visibility generally poor 3 to 6 feet. Often times shooting fish on the edge of visibility. So misses are part of life and hitting rocks inevitable. The tip has held up well if only the spear shafts would hold up as well. The one problem I have had is large fish will spin this tip off of the spear. I the rock the tip gets lost. Tightening with pliers has not been enough. Now using Lock tight red and it has been holding.

Good screw on tip
Jbl makes some nice tips. These aren't high quality, which is good if ur shooting in rocky holes like I do. I try to stray away from screw on tips like this one, but if you crank it down and maybe even use some lock tight you won't have to worry about it unscrewing itself (as they usually do). All in all not a bad tip and it's cheap so you don't have to worry about messing it up in rocks.

Great tip for a JBL spear
Great tip to go with my JBL spear. Tried it out this past Friday and got some good practice with the local perch. Great penetration and very easy to remove the fish once you pin the barbs down with the little slip. After a while in the water my hands did, however, get too cold to pin them down hard enough to put the slip on them and I had to unscrew the tip. I had no problems whatsoever with the tip unscrewing by itself. All-in-all, great tip, especially if you hunt in a rocky area or reef.

Great replacement
Perfect replacement, the stock mares tip doesn't hold a candle to these JBL, love that the wings lock, time will tell if the rubber holds up, I recommend blue loctite on the threads. I'm thinking of trying the swivel next time

High failure rate
I have had two of these tips. First one got unscrewed by a rockfish that swam off with it but I try not to hold that against it... the second one I also used one time. On one of the first shots the sliding ring that holds the flappers got deformed and made it difficult to hold the floppers down especially with 2.5mm gloves. On a later shot on a smallish greenling the pin holding the flapper popped out and I almost lost that fish. Three strikes this thing is trash. Back to my trusty single flopper. Very hard to use with gloves. Going back to the simple route for me.
