Great streaming device that's very handy / small & does a great job
I know a newer version exists - The Vidiu Pro which can record your stream in mp4 format via SD card onboard. However I couldn't get a hold of one when I needed it. So I decided to buy the Vidiu for a live stream via Youtube for a client of mine. The streaming quality in HD format was great. I did a streaming for a high profile client and used this VidiU and it worked like a charm. No headaches associated. You just plug via HDMI from your camera to the Vidiu, and hook up an internet connection via Ethernet or WiFi, and you can stream live to Livestream/Youtube/Ustream without doing much more than login into your streaming account and setting the desired stream quality, etc...Overall this is a very good piece of equipment which stream up to full HD quality streams at 5Mbps. I'm a professional and I hated having to use multiple pieces of equipment (laptop, converter, etc) to create a live stream. This little device does the job nicely for 1-camera (or multi-camera environment) streams. It doesn't seem to overheat too much, and I can stream a long time if I connect it to power source without overheating (i streamed for up to 2.5 hours in HD 720p and it worked like a charm). When not connected to a power plug, you can stream about 60-minutes or more.I really recommend it. Their app works pretty decently on smartphone and tablet. The only downside is that you have to stream via their App on the ipad if you want to add text / photos / images to your stream (if you don't want to have to do it on a laptop but rather use an ipad/tablet)...

Very nice device but limited by design.
I purchased the VidiU but decided to return it because of its limited capability. We purchased it to use with the "free" iPad Live:Air app. Also purchased it to use with Wirecast. The free app requires a $99 upgrade to remove the watermark and enable needed features. Requires another $99 to enable recording.First of all, VidiU works brilliantly as advertised in accepting HDMI input from any camcorder or DSLR. This allows you to stream SD TO HD video signal direct to an iPad running Live:Air. We use an iPad Pro and it looks and works impressively! The VidiU will allow you to stream direct to a CDN such as Ustream, Livestream, or any RTMP based provider.A MAJOR limitation is that the VidiU only has a one hour battery life. This makes it unusable for a mobile streaming rig for filming/streaming live events or anything last more than one hour. Of course, AC power can be used but that defeats the purpose of being mobile and wireless in the field. I suppose that you can connect an accessory battery to the device but that's another expense. They could have easily made a unit with 2-4 hours of battery life.Another major limitation is that this device does not work with Wirecast using the StreamReader plug-in. I was told by Tech Support that this model of Vidiu is incompatible with the Streamreader plug-in. Using the plug-in requires Wirecast pro ($500 upgrade to regular wirecast). Also requires using the VidiU Pro device which costs $1000.Teradek is a high-end professional products company. Sales and service support are excellent. I was informed that both the VidiU Mini and VidiU are consumer-grade products. I'm thinking that for producers such as myself who do excellent work for some clients on limited budgets that these products are ultimately frustrating because of designed limitations. It is best to spend more money (if you have it) and go with professional-grade products produced by Teradek.

Wanted to love it, ended up hating it.
Wifi is unusable. The internal Vidiu speedtest function tells me 200kbps with the Vidiu right next to the Wifi AP. My iPhone speed test tells me I'm getting 10 Mbps up.Alright, so I resigned myself to keeping it connected via ethernet. I get everything configured, and create a test live stream to Facebook (private to just me). Everything is going great, I stream for over an hour, no problemo. I leave everything plugged in but turn the Vidiu off and go to bed then come back the next morning to stream "for real." First issue: "No Video." I replug the HDMI cable: "No Video." I turn the Vidiu off then on again: "Not Ready." That's when I notice that the "menu" button/controller on the front of the Vidiu doesn't work. The Vidiu is locked up.Anyhoo, 2 resets later, I give up and am returning it.

Awesome box - Beware of WiFi!
This box is AWESOME! It's easy to set up, get running, and do whatever with. Unfortunately the built in wireless doesn't work well for streaming. The building I was in has enterprise class access points and I was the only one there and the quality suffered significantly vs. the wired network. Otherwise it's awesome.

Hope they refresh the hardware soon... outdated for 2016
The good:-Pretty easy to use, once you get the app.- Small package (but not very mobile)-The navigation button is pretty cool concept, and works well (but can be a pain if you have complex wifi passwords to enter)-Works well when plugged into ethernet-YouTube live stream integration is seamless and super easy to setupThe bad:- This product needs a hardware refresh.- It's form factor indicates that it should be mobile, however the wifi connectivity is appalling. No 802.11ac support, cant get more than 3-4Mbps on either 2.4Ghz/5Ghz to 802.11ac/n OR g AP sitting right next to it. May not be an issue for 360p streams, but if you want 720p/1080p not very practical. Had to use a 802.11ac wifi connected to laptop --> then bridge that connection via ethernet to Viduu to get enough bandwidth.- 1080p streaming indicates needing 7.2mbps BW on the box, however even with more than 10Mbps upload on a dedicated pipe, 1080p is very choppy.- Battery life is less than 60 minutes. Again, not very useful when you are walking around.- Boot up time takes for every and the unit is very sluggish when starting/stopping streams- Tech support --> SUCKS! No response, no clear troublshooting advice.
