Kander and Ebb (Yale Broadway Masters Series)

Excellent!
Well-written, well-researched and revelatory in many ways. This book is a necessity for anyone interested in Musical Theatre. A perfect example of how to examine a Musical Theatre writer's career (in this case writers'). One of the very best books I have read on Musical Theatre.

Kander & Ebb book well worth reading, but needs more of Ebb's show biz excitement
I will read any book about John Kander and Fred Ebb, the longest-running musical team on Broadway. They used show business as a motif to te;ll a wide variety of storires and stretched their talent and craftsmanship in many other directions. There is not one of their musicals that doesn't have a song or songs and subjects that fascinate and entertain. This writer had a problem, though: Fred Ebb had died at about the time he began his book. Kander is an eloquent subject, but Ebb possessed a palpable excitement and showmanship. The public Liza Minnelli was a joint creation with Ebb. Otherwise, I ate the book up.
