For my purposes, it'll work. But for the price, it should have common-sense features ... and better last for years!
This heater seems sturdy ... and the size is definitely a positive. If its output at either low- or high-setting continuously meets your needs in your environment, you'll likely be happy you spent the premium for this unit. But for the premium price, there should be: - 1. A handle with which to move the unit when it has been used. To move it with one hand, it must be grasped pincer-like at one of the upper corners. - 2. A wider base, so that tipping is less likely. If the lowermost portion of the base projected 1/2" to 1" in front and to the rear of the heater's depth, it would be less likely to tip if inadvertently brushed. - 3. A thermostat. The heater is either on or off, and always provides the same amount of air ... so you'll be the thermostat if one is needed, using the poorly positioned switch to control the ambient temperature. When it is on, it pushes a lot of air, which might be disturbingly loud for some. - 4. A power switch on the heater's side or top.The black/silver version delivered to me has a different switch than is shown in the pictures mid-February 2016. Off is indicated by a horizontal mark at 3:00 on the dial. Turning the dial to about 1:30 results in the fan turning on, and "low" heat. Turning the dial to about 4:30 results in the same fan speed, and "high" heat. The fan is moves a lot of air, and is therefore not as silent as one might desire. The earlier review mentioning deficient air-flow probably had a defective fan. I use this unit to provide heat within the kitchen cabinets of my old house when the weather is sub-25-degrees for any length of time. (The warm air leaks into the crawlspace where the water supply enters my house, ensuring the water pipes don't freeze.)The jury's still out on whether it's durability with use, will live up to the promise of the outer frame, which is heavy-grade aluminum. The Pelonis metal-framed compact unit (about a 6-inch cube) that this replaced cost half the price (around 10 years ago), and had the features described above (except the thermostat/switch was at the bottom/rear of that heater). The Pelonis unit is no longer made; I used it for 9 - 10 heating seasons. The Pelonis (and Holmes and other) replacement units have a plastic housing, so I bought this Crane.

Finally, a heater fan that is actually pleasant!
I've finally found a space heater fan that runs at a pleasant speed and noise level/pitch. For some reason, for years, manufacturers always made these things with fans that blow so obnoxiously hard and loud that I want to toss the thing out the window. I don't even think about sleeping with those on. I've been using an oil-filled heater that is basically silent, but need some supplemental heat now. This Crane heater is really compact - it doesn't take up much space - and yet the fan makes a very soft, pleasing sound, and it cranks out plenty of heat, even at the low setting. I haven't even tried the high setting yet because the high setting could be too much for the circuit it's on. So I was looking for one like this with around an 800w low setting. The only criticisms I'd have, which detract enough to cost 1 star, are that there's no fan-only setting, and there's no thermostat. It's basic - on low or high, or off. But aside from that, I'm very pleased. If it dies suddenly or something, I'll try to remember to come back and edit this review. This is replacing a very old (17+ years old) heater fan, and I'm hoping it will offer a similar length of service... though this one may get far more use.

Decent little heater
This is a 800/1200 watt unit not 600/1200 if it matters to anyone. It is 8" high by 3.25" deep by about 6.75" wide. The picture and model number are now correct on Amazon. No, it does not have a remote.Someone posted that this unit has tip-protection, but it does not (I just tried it). Disconcerting, but i'll live with it. If anyone is wondering, as it was a selling point for me, the construction is mostly metal (case & grate at least, impressive in a sea of plastic heaters), and the case does not get hot despite the warning sticker on top of the unit.I am pleased with the performance, even though I'm downgrading from a Pelonis 4-ceramic-disk heater (It was my parents', I moved out, it stayed), and upgrading from a temporary [crappy] Lasko 'milk-house' style heater Wally World special. I wanted to get a Pelonis, but the company seems to barely acknowledge it's existence anymore and I didn't want to drop down 70 Washingtons for it. While the Pelonis is still superior to this unit, I think this little Crane comes pretty close, and I'll echo other reviews here for quiet operation and for heating up a 10x10 room pretty well. I suspect the only reason the Pelonis seemed to work better was due to more infrared heat put out of the unit and more air forced through the heating element (same fan size, but higher speed, your trade-off is loudness though).Keep in mind that the vast majority of 'ceramic' heaters, including this one, don't use perforated ceramic plates, the kind used in the Pelonis and good infrared saunas (I have one, the plates in the heating units are similar to the Pelonis disks). To be honest, I don't even see where the 'ceramic' part comes into play with the Crane, it just looks like a metal element. But again, it still heats well, and for less than 35 dollars, it's hard to beat when accounting for it's size.

Too small and kinda dangerous
The fan is weak and the heater is small. The front heats up enough to burn you and it will burn to the touch. It says to keep it 30 inches away from everything but then you wouldn't feel it.
