The lost art of the muscleman movie
It's a shame really. They no longer produce the musclemen movies.Back in the day movie theatres were packed watching Samson,Hercules.Eursus,Atlas,Goliath and the Son of Hurcules. And if there is a better movie than the original Jason and the Argonauts starring Todd Armstrong write me. And you know the best part? You can let your children watch them without fear.Or your grandkids. Nothing objectionable. Just entertainment.

Kino Gets It Right...Again
The Italian Peplum genre is getting an excellent boost with this second release of the Maciste series . Having been released over two decades ago by such companies as Alpha Video and Sinister Cinema, the fans were subjected to the Americsn International Pictures 78 minute cut with a different music score by Les Baxter and both releases in pan and scan washed out color. Retromedia tried to give us a slight taste of goodness with their widescreen release back in 2014 but it was still the same AIP worn print we always knew. Now Kino Lorber elevates the film to the classic status it deserves by restoring the print to its original 98 minute length in its International cut making the photographic images by Cinematographer Riccardo Pallotini and the vision of the great Riccardo Freda pop off our monitors as they were meant to be experienced. The score by Carlo Innocenzi can also be enjoyed and appreciated as well. Fans will gasp at the sets and costumes seen for the first time in 2K Blu-Ray in their glorious splendour. The other standout in this package is an excellent audio commentary by the always reliable and informative Tim Lucas who gives us incites on the actors and technicians and also the history in film of the Maciste character. Trailers for other action epics round out the mix making this another must have release. This is the fifth entry in the Maciste series and lets hope that Kino Lorber continues to find and release more in the future. This film now over 60 years old still packs a punch (no pun intended) and will restore actor Gordon Scott as a definitive actor in the peplum genre for new younger audiences to come. This performance along with his British Tarzan releases is honest and believable making this film excellent, rousing entertainment of the first order.

It was better in my mind,,,
I viewed this film at my local theater when I was just a youngster. At that time I was inthralled by all things "sword and sandle". Steve Reeves (Who was a good friend and work out partner of Gordan Scott.) had captured my imagination and inspired me to begin a life long love of body building/weight lifting with his portryal of, Hercules."Sampson and the Seven Miracles of the World" was one of the countless such films that I watched each and every Sat. afternoon. Gordon Scott has always been one of my favorite body builder turned actor. He can actually act !! He also had a build that was on a par with the late great Steeve Reeves and knew how to make the best use of those massiive lats in the scenes where he up roots trees or moves huge boulders. He knew how to make us kids think he was actually lifting something in humanly heavy. As a kid I ate it up.As an adult, I enjoyed watching this gem because I rememberd all the "Muscle" scenes. That was why I watched it after all to begin with. However, with dubed voices, white actors playing Mongols with little or no Mongol make up a (Sampson himself hardly looks like a native.) obviously rubber boulders, a story line that even as a kid I had trouble taking seriously, stunts that were so poor the union would have walked off the set, sets that were obviously left over from another sword and sandle saga set in a completey different culture,,,It was better in my mind or rather in a child's mind. Still, I give it five stars because as a kid I thought it was great, Gordon Scott was great in it and the "muscle scenes are still fun to watch as I fast forward through the rest of the film to watch those. If you can suspend critical observation and slip back into the mind of a child, you ought to buy this movie. If you can't, buy it any way and fast forward away !The Shootist

Save your money, buy a frisbee
The quality of the DVD from Alpha Video is so bad it was barely viewable. I could shrink it to 1/4 size to view but was still poor quality. Save your money, buy a frisbee

Watch this movie
I saw this when I was a child. Gordon Scot is not Steve Reeves but it is a terrific example of sword and sandal movies.

Enjoyable !!!
I found this peplum quite refreshing. The producer followed the recipee accurately and added some ingredients of his own.Surprisingly, Gordon Scott's acting is pretty good. He was so bad in "Hero of Rome" that I did not expect much of him. I do not know how old he was when he shot that one, but his mature very athletic look fits the part marvelously. The grabbing storyline takes by the hand through the film. The action scenes are remarkably innovative (beside the usual MAN vs ANIMAL scene) and are numerous. The whole story is taking place in China. The presence of a non-asian muscleman amongst the native is explained well enough to make it almost acceptable to the viewers. Sets are big and spectacular to watch. A change from the repetitive desert sceneries, we are usually treated to.A few bad points !!! Gordon Soctt is wearing 70s style wrestler red trunks. They brutally clash with the traditional Chinese dress code. I found it weird that a 6'3" (1 92 m.) tall muscular white man, wearing a red bathing suit, can walk in a crowd of small asian people and draws no attention whatsoever. Finally, the transfer to DVD is average at times, as the colors are a bit saturated. This item is worth it as a single DVD purchase and highly recommended in a multi-disks boxset.
