Q: Can this projector throw the image at an angle? From a corner of the room.

Sounds like you need something like an Ultra-Short throw projector. LG, Epson and Optoma make some that sit right up against the screen on a table and yet show a nice 110" picture.

Q: How do you flip the image? When I mounted it to the ceiling the image is upside down.

from the remote, hit "menu", then go to the "setup tab" (hit left twice to go there"), go to the "projection" item, and then selec the option showing the projector upside down.

Q: will this projector work with passive 3d glasses, or do you have to use the active type of 3D glasses?

This projector has a VESA port if you want to connect an external RF 3D signal emitter.It will work with DLP Link or Active 3D glasses.There are glasses out there that will work with either technology.There's a good reason you have a VESA port.The experts know with an external 3D emitter and Active 3D glasses you get a MUCH better 3D experience.I couldn't believe the difference when I first saw it.Make sure you get a Blueray player that will allow you to adjust how strong the 3D is.

Q: How does this compare to the viewsonic pjd5134? i am not sure which features are the most important to compare.

The Optoma HD141X is full HD projector. The Viewsonic PJD5134 only has a "native resolution" of 800x600. In my opinion Optoma HD141X is better projector than the Viewsonic PJD5134.
