Dorman 905-120 Steering Column Shift Mechanism Compatible with Select Models

So far so good on 2005 gmc yukon denali!Not sure what everyone's fuss is about this part ,but I believe the reason why it maybe faulty after installation is because the spring itself needs to be greased or at least that's how the broken one was,full of some lubricant to the point I thought something back fired but there's nothing fluid wise going towards the shift mechanism! So I brought this up to my mechanic and he did agree that some lubricant does need to go into it, but I didn't see what he actually put on it,even though I try to learn but stay out the way at the same time so he can do his job! But as my mechanic suggested just buy a new one cause you don't know what's wrong with the old one vs just buying the spring itself, cause the lubricant could be inside the shaft of the mechanism!!!Also the spring being popped doesn't mean the whole mechanism is faulty just the spring, itself so save the old part and buy the spring ,it's under $10 for OME /gmc/ac delco!!! And keep it as the backup so whenever the new doorman pops, you got OG backup with the newer spring!!!Also just get the protection plan from Amazon, 4 years for another $10 I can live with that as we see the part is already fair priced!the popped spring will give you power issues trying to start the vehicle, so don't look at the battery as the issue!!!!!There's videos on YouTube that will walk any novice through the process ,only reason I didn't do it myself is because of the bad weather here in the tri-state, but my mechanic only charged me $70 and a sandwich, lol other mechanics online price checking is a $100 to install this very simple part!The videos you want is the ones where they take out the ignition switch, thats the only way to get the wire hook out that's attached to the shift mechanism! The media could not be loaded. I installed this because there was play in the old mechanism and straight out of the box it's worse. The shift lever moves up and down several inches. The play is between the little white ball and the slot it rides in. I would love to rate this zero stars.EDIT: I was so dissatisfied after the install that I took it all back apart and discovered that one of the bolts holding the part together was broken off just below the head. It was on there somehow but I poked the mechanism and it literally fell apart. I had to go to Autozone in town and buy another of the same part and hope I could get some sort of refund afterwards from Dorman. No such luck. They are unwilling to give me any refund and insist that I would have to talk to the people that sold it to me. The fit and finish is still terrible and I've spent almost as much as it would have cost to just buy one from the dealer in the first place. I hope I never have to buy another Dorman part again.

Perfect fit on a 2004 Silverado 1500 4x4 easy to install

Part was matching, but quality of the cable was subpar. Had to repair the sheathing prior to me installing part.

Well i used the old cable from the truck but other than that it shifts like a dream! The locking solenoid went bad and someone broke the column shifter causing the spring to get lost soo jus a few short hours and brand new.. jus gotta fiddle around with the cable to get it to fit right thats like the worst part but new hardware and all good stuff dorman!

I could not pull the ignition lock part out as many YouTube videos mention. One of the videos show that you can put a pick or tiny screwdriver in a hole on top of the steering column and pull out the ignition switch but I didn’t want to mess with that. So as many videos showed I can open the metal cover on the shifter and use the cable from the original shifter. Well, it did not fit in as deep as it did on the original and I could not put back the metal cover with the 3 screws. I had to get a Dremil and grind the slot about an 1/8th deeper so I can get the metal cover back on. After that it was fine and works well.

This product is hard to install no matter who you buy it from. With that in mind, for it to last less than a year and break, is completely unacceptable. Now I need to buy another one, and hopefully one that works better as this one never quite correlated between displayed positions and actual gear.I give it five stars for EC to install, because all of them are hard to install. But I give it one star for value and durability. The first one lasted 22 years and the replacement lasted a year. but another brand of return as soon as you suspect something is not right.The enclosed pictures shows the shifter which goes all the way down to the 6 o’clock position and he will not go back to the 1 o’clock position. Pure trash
