You may need to replace the terminals to the UPS wiring.
As with any lead acid battery, corrosion is a way of life. A baking soda and water solution may need to be applied to select interior portions of your UPS prior to assembly as to neutralize any old battery acid spillage. Good luck and don’t get this stuff in your eyes.

Cheap defective knockoff battery
Buying replacement batteries for UPS systems can be a difficult choice. Do I spend a lot more money to get an original APC replacement battery, or do I get a generic knockoff for a lot less money? In the past I used to only buy the original APC replacements, which can often cost more than a good car battery. As time went on I started experimenting with UPC and American Battery replacements. They often work OK, but typically last only about half as long before needing replacement. Either way, you end up spending about the same amount of money over time. However, this time when I purchased a knockoff RBC6 from UPC I had a much less benign experience. The battery only lasted about 2 1/2 years and then when I went to pull the dead battery I was shocked to see that the battery had swollen over 1 1/2 inches in height and was wedged so tightly I could not move it. The battery was also extremely hot.The only way to get the battery out of the unit was partial disassembly. I removed the cover and removed the screws for the brackets holding the battery in place. This gave me just enough room to force the battery out of the compartment, which required a large screwdriver to act as a lever. It is pretty clear now that short battery life is not the only issue you can have with the cheaper battery replacements. I am going to be ordering original APC replacements from now on, as they tend to last twice as long and I have never had one swell up even slightly.

Short life in service
It fit in the UPS perfectly and self-tested fine. But, we had a power failure today and I had less than 1 minute of runtime at 32.5% load. It is only 6 months old. It will no longer charge or even self-test. The software reads it as discharged and intermittently sufficient and then insufficient runtime. Assuming UPC honors its warranty, it will cost me about $40 to send it back to them and then I will get another battery which I will not be able to rely on. So, I do not think it is worth the cost of postage to return it.

Smaller than the old batteries, but seems to work.
Works well, but much smaller than the original as well as the last set of replacement batteries. I question the capacity and longevity, guess we'll see. Appears like smaller universal standard batteries set up to work in my application. Okay for the price I guess.

Cheapest at the time!
UPS batteries are a commodity - there are a few manufacturers and a ton of resellers that brand the batteries. So there is no reason to pay for APC-branded batteries when someone else is selling them cheaper.Warning: Amazon will try to fool you. Do a search for RBC6 and you will find RBC? (something else) in the results list. If you make a mistake and think the results list has only RBC6 in it, you might find a cheaper battery that will not work properly. Yes, I have done this! It can be an expensive mistake.
