Nice Monitor - great picture with a few quirks
I've had this monitor for about 6 months. I purchased it after trying out a 32 inch curved Samsung monitor. The Samsung didn't play well with my new Mac Mini (text didn't scale properly) and after a bit of research, picked this monitor after considering the 5k monitors from LG.The video performance of the monitor has proven outstanding. I'm an Audio/Video design engineer and have experience with almost every type of large monitor available. The Mac Mini drives the display via the Thunderbolt 3 ports without issue. I use the monitor for processing astrophotography and photoshop work and, once calibrated, have found the color accuracy to be spot on. I'm not a gamer, but occasionally I connect a Del XPS 15 9570 and run an RC flight simulator program at high-res/60 Hz without noticeable artifacts.Quirks - the menu controls and menu structure are almost unusable. How these got by any sane design engineer is crazy. The volume control is buried in there someplace - pretty much a bad joke. I don't need any of these controls very often but burring the volume control in an unusable user interface, especially when ASUS touts the B-O audio technology is pretty much laughable.Which leads to the sound quality of the display speakers. Do not purchase this monitor for the speaker system. I'm not sure who at B&O worked with Asus on the "ICE" technology but I'll bet he no longer has a job. I use an external speaker system. However, If you want to use the internal speaker system with a newer Mac PC, plan on connecting a 3.5 mm audio cable between your Mac and the display as Mac's interpret the video connection as only a monitor and will not embed the audio in the USB-C/HDMI connection to the display. This is most likely the fault ASUS engineers not correctly setting the HDCP audio encryption key correctly. The lack of any vertical adjustments in the stand is a bit annoying but solved by placing the monitor on a cheap stand.Overall this is a nice monitor with great picture quality that works with both PC and Mac's without any video issues (that I've seen) at a reasonable price. Just don't expect concert hall audio from the internal speakers.

I love my monitor. Has one issue with XBox, but it's easy to deal with.
I really love this monitor. It's sleek and beautiful. The image is super crisp, and I have it connected through DisplayPort to my Mac. I encountered an issue that was actually going to cause me to return this monitor.. but I found a way around it.The issue is that, after a few weeks of usage on the XBox in 4K it will develop a black screen 'flicker'. Really, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then comes back. This will really mess you up if you are playing online, especially in a battle royale game!I tried everything. I tried every setting, new cables, everything. In the end, what fixes it is a simple unplugging of the power supply to the monitor. Yeah, it's inconvenient when you have to do it.. but in the last few months I've only had to do it twice. I can't quite pin down what's the situation that causes this behavior to START, but at least there's a way to stop it from happening. I just unplug the barrel connector behind the monitor for 30 seconds, and then reattach.Aside from that, the monitor is perfect. I've had mine for 1 year now, and no dead pixels, no complaints other than what's been stated. I still highly recommend this monitor, and only knocked a star off because logically speaking there IS an issue, even if it's easy to deal with for me.I also have a MX27AQ (same monitor, non-4K) also with zero dead pixels, and zero complaints about it. I've been using that monitor with my Mac for THREE years now. I use this one (MX27UC) through DP to my Mac, and I use the non-4K MX27AQ monitor as a 2nd screen through HDMI. My conclusion is ASUS makes great monitors.Hope this helps somebody!

The best picture quality of anything I've seen... unfortunately my screen was broken.
This monitor has the best picture of any 4K or 2K monitors that I tested in 2019 and early 2020. I compared it to:LG 27UD68-W 27-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor with FreeSyncSamsung Space 32-Inch SR75 UHD 4K Computer Monitor (LS32R750UENXZA)Dell Ultra Sharp LED-Lit Monitor 25" Black (U2518D)| 2560 X 14402019 Alienware M17 17.3" 4K screen with NVIDIA GTX 2080 graphic card (I used this card when running the montiors). This ASUS Designo was nearly identical in quality to the Samsung Space 32" 4K monitor. I performed a side-by-side test watching the same 4K video and photos. The ASUS had more detail and richer colors. I worked as a professional photographer so I have an eye for image quality. I noticed the difference but an undiscerning person would likely say they are equal. The ASUS Designo produced far superior image quality in terms of the richness, boldness and strength of color, the color contrast, deeper blacks and more detail than both the LG 27UD68-W 27-Inch 4K and the Dell Ultra Sharp LED-Lit Monitor 25". There was no contest here. Both the LG and the Dell appear washed out.It was difficult to compare a 17.3" 4k screen to a 27" 4k screen, however I would consider them on par with each other. Most people won't be deciding between a 4k laptop screen or a 4k monitor since they serve very different purposes. But the Alienware 4K monitor is truly amazing. In the end, however, I returned my ASUS Designo monitor. On the first day of ownership, I experienced the screen freezing up with colored vertical lines. So if you are fortunate to get a reliable ASUS Designo 4K monitor, I think you'd be very pleased.

cheap, functional but poor build quality.
This monitor takes an eternity to change mode. So much so that my computer can boot up before the monitor, which can throw my display settings off and I sometimes have to reconfigure the desktop (by enabling the monitor - this is a multi-monitor set-up by the way). This also happens when the power saving turns the displays off or on - this monitor never comes on fast enough and the OS doesn't know it's there.I was incredibly disappointed to find that the monitor had 'touch' buttons rather than proper physical buttons for power, mode, volume, etc. I cannot tolerate these types of buttons. This coupled with the delay of turning on and off (when it is in the middle of 'powering on' or 'switching mode' you cannot turn it off immediately which means that if you shut down your computer, you'll have to hang around a while for the monitor to realise thatit has no signal). After a couple of months the front panel fell off. I found this highly amusing as by this time I pretty much hated this screen anyway. I found a little bit of super glue along the panel stuck it back on better than it ever had been before. I cannot imagine what glue Asus must have used for it to fall off so readily.I would also suggest that the display resolution is not high enough - it's nice to have the width and I understand this is a 'gaming' screen (although I would probably use something else to be honest) but I would have appreciated a little more pixel height. No dead pixels on my monitor which was a bonus.I bought this monitor just to see what it was like; it was cheap and I suspected I was getting what I paid for. I did, and I'm happy with that. If you want better gear, we all know we have to spend a little more, right?

But I personally love this monitor
The ultra-widescreen look isn't for everyone. Some people prefer a standard multi-monitor setup. But I personally love this monitor. The image is really crisp, monitor is nice and solid. Still using it and continuing to be really happy with it.Not compatible with monitor arms (found that out the hard way) so I've modified mine to fit one and it still works like a charm.I deducted a star because the bottom panel was loose from the start and eventually I just got sick of it peeling away and falling off and just put it away completely. The stand is also a little weak and bland and you might want to prop it up on something to elevate it to a healthier working level so you don't need to hurt your back while using it

Falsely advertised as having a camera in the frame
The Amazon product description contains a table comparing to other screens, and THAT table says the MX299Q has a camera in as a "special features". IT DOES NOT. See for yourself: tinyurl dot com slash mx299q-no-camera, or the image attached to this review if not deleted.

brilliant monitor watchout for speaker problems though
It would have been 5 stars if the sound chip on board hadnt given up its sound to the speakers after a few weeks. So its gone to be repaired and a replacement had to be obtained on a RMA.Update when I received a replacement monitor from them it had obviously been hanging around the workshop , had coffee stains on it and the bezia was coming away. It was packed in a bashed up box. So I'm still awaiting a new unit.

Incredible for films and games
Movies are amazing on this, fully immersive without the black lines top and bottom. It would be like watching a film on a 35' tv ((roughly) which has aspect of 16:9).As for gaming its also really good, gives you more of a surround feeling without having multiple monitors and bezels. Please note not all games support this but the ones that don't can be fixed with third party software.
