OUTDOOR EDGE Flip N' Blaze Hunting Knife

Discovered this knife while hunting hogs with Tactical Hog Control in Madisonville, TX. We were cutting backstraps off of hogs and the knife/skinner worked really well. Inserted along the back bone you can split the tough skin of a Texas hog easily. I bought one the next day.

Wow! I used this knife for the first time last night field dressing a nice doe I had taken. This is the most impressive, easiest to use, sharpest knife I have ever used. I have dressed many deer in my life and this one was by far the easiest and fastest dressing I have ever done. Clip blade is super sharp and the zip blade just whisks through the hide without even thinking about compromising the internal organs. Perfect size and comfortable in the hand makes this a can't miss field dressing tool. My buddy that helped hold the legs was so impressed, he is going out to find one before he heads out to the woods again. This is a great knife!

I really like Outdoor Edge's knife / saw combos. I'm not sure which knife I like better. The SwingBlaze & this Flip n' Zip are both well designed.PROSThe first thing I noticed was the quality sheath. This is a good, sturdy, hard-molded nylon sheath that is on par with, if not better than the sheath quality of most Leatherman products. I would lean towards saying the sheath is better than Leatherman sheaths because this one comes with a snap closure as opposed to Velcro. Velcro should be banned from all hunting equipment because of the excessive noise issue. The riveted drain hole in this sheath makes it even better. This is not your grandma's crappy Gerber knife & tool, soft-sided, flimsy Velcro case!!!The saw was of better quality than I was expecting, especially for something so thin. The handle has an anodized aluminum look to it, yet it has a slightly rubbery feel. I'm not a big fan of folding saws, but this one is built fairly well with no side to side blade play issues that I was expecting.The knife is well engineered with attention to details. Like the SwingBlaze, the jimping on the tops of both blades intersect with each other when using the gutting blade. When the skinning blade is folded into the handle, the jimping on the top of that blade becomes a rest for the index finger on the bottom of the handle while your thump rests on the top jimping of the gutting blade. There is also a cut out in the top of the gutting blade that helps facilitate unlocking the skinning blade when the gutting blade is folded into the handle.CONSIt is a little more uncomfortable to use the gutting blade on this Flip n' Zip as opposed to using the gutting blade on the SwingBlaze because of the shape of the skinning blade and because it is not recessed as much into the handle when it is in the folded position.Left hander friendly? ...sort of. I am unique. I am left handed, yet I was practically forced to shoot firearms at a young age from the right handed shooting position. I have the best of both worlds when it comes to a firearm (or bow) in one hand and a tool in the other, but have been very disappointed that pretty much all of Outdoor Edge's products are set up for right handed people. Right handed blades & sheaths can be annoying for left-handed people. Although this Flip n' Zip has dual thumb studs on both sides of the skinning blade, the gutting blade only has a right-handed thumb stud. To their credit, I can see how this could not have been avoided bases on the design and function of the knife. I am able to open the gutting blade with one hand using my index finger on my left hand to partially open the blade. Then I am able to use my left thumb on the jimping on the top of the gutting blade to open it the rest of the way. I can unlock and close that blade with my left hand as well by pushing away on the liner lock with my left thumb & using the index finger on the back of the blade to close it.BIGGEST CON...As always, my biggest con with Outdoor Edge products... MADE IN CHINA!!!

If you are reading this review you are like myself, a minimalist, concerned about gear weight and want the best. well buy this set, why take it from me? Because I bought all the other choices available from outdoor edge and I now this set is the best. Both items fit in a pocket so no need for the belt case. It seemed sharp out of the box so I threw it in my pocket and went out opening morning. 7 elk and 5 hours later it was still as sharp as can be and ready for more with a simple rinse from the creek. easy to see on the ground in low light and great tooth count on the saw for cutting bone.

I love my outdoor edge products. They even replaced a broken knife for me. Best knife in my pack.

This is a great combo for hunting and field dressing. I chose the Flip N' Blaze because I wanted a folding knife rather than a straight blade. Outdoor Edge supplies this combo with a rugged and durable case, and I look forward to having this knife and saw on my belt for many years.

All of my favorite tools in one small pack! Good quality steel, and I really like the orange handles. I've always had black or wood handled knives, and always struggled to keep track of them when gutting an animal, its details like that that make this a really nice set.
