It works and lasts well
I used this on a metal bin in the kitchen that started to rust on the inner lid, I suspect due to using wet antibacterial wipes. The paint works. Nice colour too close to the original bin colour (although that would not usually be seen) It lasted a good couple of years before needing to re-apply.

Reasonable, but seems to have poor coverage and quite high drying times.
I have used Hammerite products for many years and they've always been very good, but after using the tinned brush-on version of their "Straight To Rust" paint to cover the worst of an old dark green coloured paint on a garage door, I found it was very thick and tended to leave brush marks when it dried.I decided to gently sand back the areas with brush strokes using Wet & Dry paper, and buy four cans of the spray paint version to give a really nice smooth top coat to finish. I'm not sure if the colour (white, being very light) was a factor, but I have to agree with some of the other reviews that it really didn't cover very well. The pigment seems to go on very thinly, as though there is a high spirit content to the paint. This also results (as others have reported) in the paint running very easily, even when applied in very slow / thin layers. This wasn't a major issue for me as I had laid the door flat so the paint didn't run anywhere, but I imagine that if I had tried to do it in situ it would have resulted in a lot of paint running down the door.Drying time does seem to be slightly longer than other spray paints, as several other reviews have mentioned, but not to the stage that it became an issue I felt. This may be due to the previously mentioned seemingly higher spirit content in the paint taking longer to evaporate, not sure.It did a reasonably decent job on the areas it eventually covered, but to be honest I've certainly used better spray paints before, I don't think I'd go for this again.

Where did the paint go? And who said this was Gloss?
After taking a whole can to do 2 coats on a small swivel chair base, I was pretty miffed- but the finish? It's like it was flicked on, not aerosolised! The finish is textured (despite being called 'SMOOTH) and is a mid satin (despite being called GLOSS). Also it is as thin as skimmed milk, for a proper coating I would suggest the guides are nonsense, and for a .25 square metre area of metal you would need at least 4 coats- and at least 2 cans.A total waste of prep and painting.

Good paint but not for direct on zinc / galvanised steel
Bought this to cover 3 old zinc troughs after buying rustoleum garden spray online just to find out it couldn’t be used direct on metal. This direct to rust spray also says on the tin use a primer for zinc / galvanised metal although it’s not mentioned in the description. I had nothing to lose and sprayed them with it minus the primer anyway. Gave quite a good first coat but just about gave all three of them one coat.Good paint but a bit of a stingy amount for the money.

Good spray and coverage
I bought this to spray the engine bay of my competition car. I hope you can tell from the photo it came out pretty good. I did use a tin of smooth rite to paint an undercoat on with a brush and used this to finish the job. 2 coats and the can was almost empty but I'm very happy with the job and coverage it managed so no more was needed. Depending on how much you spray at a time it can take a while, say at least 24 hours, to dry but a small hardship for such a nice finish.I have also used this on the underside of the bonnet with similar results.
