Perfect for my cover band! This is what I was looking for and more.
I have been using several versions of hardware DMX controllers such as the typical 192 channel controller boards. Our lights consist of 2 gobos, 4 moving pars, 12 pars, and 2 megabars... So far. This is my first lighting rig and I'm not very fluent in DMX programming. I know how to program scenes and chases, but, beyond that I was clueless as to how to put it all together and make a good light show to compliment the band. I also have been using a PC/windows software DMX controller called "Freestyler". I'll admit, I like the addressing without gaps ability which gives you full use of the limits of 512 channels+, although, I like the the ease of access and feel of the hardware too. Freestyler has an FX feature that is pretty close to what "Lightrider" offers, only, Lightrider has preset automation that would take me some time to learn and create. This little DMX adapter looking type thing is very deceptive in it's size compared to the value it contains with the complimenting and upgradable software and hardware. It was confusing, with the limited documentation, what this really was and what the software did that came with it. At least one of the software packages offered on the website is not available to US residents. Eh... Freestyler does a pretty good job already, so, I'm not out anything. The main reason I bought this SUSHI-Z1 was it's price and the app Lightrider as a software DMX controller. SUSHI-Z1 is the only way to use Lightrider besides it's more expensive line of hardware available.Lightrider has several different versions and I am familiar with only two of them. Lightrider Classic and Lightrider 1. I cannot be certain, but, it seams that the Classic version is free. Compared to the other version from the same vendors who offer yearly or lifetime subs. It will only run on an Android tablet that I know of at this time. According to the vendors, the SUSHI-Z1 comes with a one years license for Lightrider and the option to either buy it for life @ $99.00 or $24.00 a yearly subscription. I will make that decision within the year I am allotted. Lets see how it holds out in the field of reality. So far, in my basement, it works flawlessly. The features are rich and the interface is easy to operate. Plenty of presets as of today... I am impressed! 128 DMX channels is all you get out of a possible 512. At first knee jerk reaction is that's BS and not going to be enough to work. 12 channels as a stand alone is a joke. I don't get that... that's one light. 128 is enough for my 20 lights. I did buy 128 more for $30 for a total of 256. I'm getting close to the end and I'm sure I'll add more down the road. Like a smoke machine. Unlike it's hardware counterparts, software controllers are not limited to the typical 16 channels per scanner @ a total of 12 scanners equaling 192 DMX channels. If you are using a fixture that has 12 channels, you are left with 4 remaining open channels before the next scanner starts @ 17. Software will just start @ 13, saving you those 4 channels down the line. I do have 4 channel RGBW lights I can fit in those open channel gaps, it's just, I don't need to conserve quite yet in any given situation. I have to keep it very simple to operate for the fact I have to hire a person to press the buttons to change the light scenes and chases as we play the instruments and sing.In the past we have always used a wired hardware controller. Recently we have upgraded to wireless DMX which is compatible with SUSHI-Z1 and the Lightrider app. My intention is to migrate to the app and ditch the hardware controller entirely. So far, in the lab, the results are amazing. My only wish is for a hardware version with faders and buttons. If they won't make one... I will! The features that come with Lightrider are just enough to make a great light show without the time and money spent learning how to program such intricate chases and expressive scenes at the tap of a button. As basic as they are, these presets do the trick for me. If there were only a reason to buy one more... Wait! What's this? Easy View Connect? A visualizer for PC and Mac. I am able to use the SUSHI-Z1 in reverse from my hardware controller to the PC. You may need an XLR male to male adapter to make it work for you. My controller has both IN and OUT and I just used the IN port. Yep! Just that easy. I forgot to mention the "OTG" adapter. I got mine @ Wal*mart for cheap. It's needed to plug into the Android tablet. My tablet has a 'C" type USB port. It would be nice if I could use the Easy View Connect with Lightrider. I would have to buy another SUSHI-Z1 to make that happen. Not only do I think it's worth it, ($50) I can also use it as a second universe for more DMX fun! Mwahahaha! More! More!

Good Dmx lighting control!!!
I bought this interface because I wanted to control a small lighting rig I have, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I'm surprise how good this is, just let you know you need to register the interface first through the dmxsoft website to be able to use it, all the information is in the package. It comes with several license for different lighting software, I downloaded Daslight 4, I'm still learning how to use it, but you can find video tutorials on the Daslight website. What I also like about this interface is that you can purchase upgrades through the dmxsoft store and expand the amount of dmx channels, this is good for someone that is starting like me. I don't have to spend a lot of money for a very expensive control interface and build my way up at my own pace. I definitely recommend it

many challenges with this one
First, this does not come with the software that is advertised. In fact, there is no software in the package. You need to download it. Not a biggie these days BUT there is no place on the site to get the software. You get directed to other sites which do not have the software listed on the web site nor in the package nor on Amazon. One package you cannot download from the US at all. Two of the others no longer show up as lifetime packages and one, now an obsolete version, can be obtained.Contacted their support, which responded to my ticket the first day gave me links to download the advertised software. The links didnt work. Submitted this on the ticket, was told to modify the links. That didnt work. Responded to that and so far havent heard anything back.Next problem is that I cant seem to find a way to make it work with QLC+. It doesnt seem to be recognized as an input or output device. The website is horrible for finding the information needed. It links you to other sites for the software, has minimal information and what is there is pretty useless. These days, you should have a how-to doc for just about every aspect of a product and probably a corresponding video as well.Seems like they spend more on the packaging than on creating a product you can 'plug and play' with.Probably the biggest thing I noticed after I got the item was that you only get 128 channels BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL FEE TO GET THE 512 CHANNELS. The device supports it, but is licensed to prevent you from using it unless you pay more. What the blood heck?!!!!!IF this worked, it might be a nice device but so far I have not been able to use it for anything. I have a $10 device that has worked right out of the package. I like the form factor of this device more but this is really a case where function over form is important.I would suggest avoiding this product. It looks good on the surface but doesnt deliver and for the price I was definitely expecting more.
