4 Directions Bushcraft Missouri Fatwood Pine Lighter Natural Fire Starter Stick with 1/2x5 Ferrocerium Flint Fire Starter Steel with 550 Paracord Lanyards and 4DB Carabiner

By now everyone knows that 4DB rods work great, so let's talk about the other stuff you get. The fatwood chunk is large and shavings hold a flame like a candle, as intended. It has plenty of impurities such as the barky spot shown in my pics, but I don't mind because it still has a ton of usable fatwood and the impurities give the stick a very attractive profile and a variaty of wood shaving textures to choose from. You can see tool marks on the wood, showing that the piece is clearly hand carved. Frankly, I don't see how they can sell this package so cheap with that custom carving job.As other reviewers mentioned, the paracord is melted together where it meets the carabiner. This is an obvious weak point, so I cut the cord at the join, unravled the paracord weave 4 loops, and tied a simple knot (see pic). This still leaves plenty of cord to hold onto and eliminates the weak point. I noticed this paracord does have wax string and fishing line strands in its core, so that's an added bonus for sure!Lastly, my package DID COME WITH A STRIKER, unlike some of the previous reviewers. It's not in the item description so I might not count on it for sure, but it's another great bonus. One edge is serraded for creating fine shavings for tinder and the other side is the striking surface. I was very happy to see that this surface actually rolls over slightly into a type of burr on one side (see picture with red arrow). This tiny roll catches the rod like a blade and tears out a big ol blast of sparks. I definitely prefer this over a sharp 90 degree knife spine, which also throws pretty good sparksOverall, I'm incredibly impressed. These guys even enclosed a coupon code for 7% off other 4DB items, with no expiration date. Needless to say, 4DB is my new go-to bushcraft company, which I'm really happy about because it's a USA operation. Keep it up!

Great product! Monster ferro rod, big piece of fat wood and all attached with some paracord to a carabiner. Only gave 3 stars for weight because it is heavier than it looks, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This should lat someone a long time!
