Metz + Canon = coolio
I'm using the 3102 on a Canon XS with a Metz 54 flash.I can do all manual, ettl, Metz auto (the best). The focus assist light works, data transfers from camera to flash fine. There is no optical remote on this module.I like it just fine.

Works Great
I received the Mod 5 version of this module. It communicates with my 5d Mk2 very well.

Aged with time
This unit worked well, however it is broken now. I suspect the reason was, it's age. Plastic ages with time and can become brittle and this unit appeared like that. It was no fault of the seller. With age, we all have our hidden cracks.

This is the M5 version, which works with many Canon DSLR cameras. According to Metz, you need the M6 version if you own a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 6D, EOS 650D, EOS 700D, or EOS 70D if you want full TTL compatibility. I own the 70D and will be ordering the M6 version. I will update my review when I have had the opportunity to test its functionality.

This is a warning about buying SCA 3102 modules and NOT knowing which version the module is. The M2 will not work with modern Canon DSLRs and Metz cannot upgrade the firmware of any module less than a M3 version. If the seller cannot tell you what version the module is and if Amazon cannot find out from the seller, then buyer beware.

Does the job.
It works with the latest Canon ETTL II like 60D, 5 D II, 7D, etc. The exp accuracy is good.

Not enough detail!
I wish I could just ask questions directly about this item, it would make it much easier to know what they are selling. It's hard to purchase an item like this when they do not let you know what modification to the Metz SCA 3102 they are selling. The picture makes one think this may be the very first modification "M", which was produced in 11/00. They have three other modifications after that, M2, M3 and the latest M4. The M3 modification on 11/04 made it compatible with cameras like the EOS1D Mark II, EOS5D, and others, the last modification in 01/08 M4 made modifications for the EOS1DS Mark III and others. If this is really the first version M, then it is old. It will probably work with your camera, except for some functions in dedicated ETTL, and other stuff I'm not aware of.They really need to be more specific about this item!
