Know what you're getting and it's great!
I read a lot of reviews on this blanket and it's exactly how every cotton blanket I've owned works. The first thing to know is that the definition of "soft" is different for new cotton blankets vs worn cotton blankets and other blankets made from materials like fleece, polyester, or silk. It's rougher than those but not burlap rough and will, over time with washings and use, become smoother feeling to your skin but will always be "rougher" feeling than those other types of materials I mentioned. It's going to shed and pill. Especially during the first couple washes. It's cotton. Cotton does that. Wash it by itself for it's entire life, no exceptions, or you will get lint on everything else in the wash with the blanket. It's not made the same way as cotton bed sheets and it's not going to look pristine the way it comes when it pops out of the package after it's first wash so don't expect that or you're going to be disappointed. After a couple washes it's going to look evenly "worn in" but will still shed periodically through most of it's life. It's cotton so expect it.The weight I would place at medium. I have other cotton blankets with more loose/open weaves that are lighter but I find them to be lacking with keeping in any warmth on cool nights (as expected). This blanket has a nice tight weave that's easily adjusted if you snag it or pull it. Even with the medium weight, it's kept me cool in the hotter nights and warmer in the cooler nights so it does its job of temperature control for me.Cotton sheets and blankets are often stiff when new. For a fast way to soften a new cotton blanket or sheets out of a package is to run it in a full drum of warm water on a GENTLE cycle with 1 cup of baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) as the detergent. Rinse cycle should be cold water; whatever pocket or device on your washer you normally place fabric softener, use 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar (don't mix the baking soda and the vinegar in the water). Dry on very low heat or air dry. I promise you it will not smell like a salad after it's washed, in fact it will probably have no smell at all as baking soda and vinegar strip away starches and detergents used in the manufacturing process. I do this with my cotton sheets and blankets when I first get them and it saves a lot of time with the "breaking in" process. That's pretty much it. The color is a nice, even, light grey. Mine had no discolorations or stains but if yours has them then return or replace it. Easy.

Soft But Sturdy Weave & Excellent Value! No Shrinkage Here!
We have been through a couple of woven cotton blankets and left feeling disappointed. Many are woven so loose that they unravel over time, badly lose shape, disintegrate after 1-2 washes or are so thin they are worthless for warmth. Even costly designer name brands have disappointed! This blanket is BEAUTIFUL and practical! The weave is perfect! It isn't scratchy like hospital grade cotton blankets, but it feels just as durable. We washed it in cold water on delicate and air fluffed it for 40 minutes in the dryer then ex low heat for 10. It retained its shape with little to no shrinkage. Fits my son's twin bed fine and he wrapped up in its softness. The sides cover past the 14" mattress on the sides and has plenty to tuck in at the end. We like to use natural bedding because of everyone's very sensitive skin and eczema. But the wool blanket we had for him was a bit too heavy since we have had a mild fall. This blanket suits our needs perfect! We ordered a king for our bed to go under our cotton bedspread for layering. Will write a review for it as well after we get it laundered and made up. Will definitely order more products from Cotton Craft! Good quality Indian cotton goods at a wonderful price! Well done and even seam stitching & no lose threads. Have no complaints!Worth Noting:1. It is 100% cotton. If washed improperly, it will be affected by shrinkage. Wash cold as instructed & preferably delicate, by itself. Extra low-low tumble dry or even air fluff tumble.2. This isn't designed to be a heavy, super warm, winter blanket. Best for warmer weather or layering during colder months under your quilts. Perfect if you radiate heat at night like me & my family but you like the feeling of a cozy blanket.3. It isn't 'over-sized' and isn't suitable as a bed spread to cover a mattress & box springs. It is a blanket. Sizing listed is accurate.4. If you want natural (non-synthetic) bedding with the vintage quality like your grand or great grandparents had, this is perfect! Many fire prevention agencies recommend all natural bedding that is less likely to ignite into flames from the smallest spark. A great bargain for a little peace of mind!UPDATE: We washed the king blanket as well and are using it on our bed now. We have a 21" mattress that requires special sheets. Even after washing, this blanket still works for us although we don't have much excess on the sides (this is normal for our huge mattress). I dried it on air fluff then low heat to finish and of course, washed it cold. No shrinkage. Very happy with BOTH sizes! We are using this layered under a cotton quilt. Perfect for mild winter and hopefully for next spring/summer in the south too.Latest UPDATE: We ordered ANOTHER twin blanket in white for our daughter's bed. We are still using the original two we purchased some time back and they have held up fine through several washes. Still very pleased!

One of my favorite blankets, but….
Summary: Love it but, sheds pretty bad for a while!!!This is literally my favorite blanket now that we have had it for a while. I get really hot at night and this is typically my go to blanket for, even for both my pregnancies during 3rd trimester full summer months. It is heavy enough that I don’t end up cold, but light enough I stay cool. I love this type of blanket and it is huge in the king size!! Just what k was looking for! However, the main down side it is sheds sooooooo bad when you first get it. It was alll over our bedroom and got in like every room of the house after a while. I did read this in the reviews and ended up watching it quite a few times to help get rid of this issue. I brought this in 2020 and still love it, so that goes to show I was invested in keeping it around.Pros: perfect for lightweight blanket, still feels substantial and looks great!!Con: shedding - like more than anything I have ever owned - so be sure to wash like 5 times before use….

Very happy, nice quality, nice weave. Would buy again.
I love the weight. Not too thin and not too thick, great for layering. Yes, the lint trap filled a lot the first wash, a lot less so on the second. I think this is normal, though many complain of this. Got the pale green color and its exactly as pictured on the listing.
