My favorite knife.
Mine came 5 days early, big plus. First off "survival" knives are are overpriced gimmicks but this is one of the few buck knives a like and I wanted this because I received the buck thug for xmas. That said...the knife is perfect AS A KNIFE (not a hatchet, axe, slitting, wedge, or prybar). This knife will be mostly used for food processing, hunting trips and hog hunting. It won't be used to process fire wood because that's what an axe is for. DEFINITELY won't be batoning with it because batoning in and of itself is stupid and completely unnecessary. I picked mine up for about 150 which is as high as I'm willing to go on any blade that's not a sword. I fully recommend this product to true knife users and not the idiots who want to "try and break it"

Best "everything" knife!
What I received is a super sharp, beautifully constructed knife for almost everything. Whether it's hunting, hiking, camping or survival, this knife is truly excellent. It's 5160 carbon steel is great for outdoor survival knife use and sharpens reasonably well. I received mine with an incredibly sharp blade that will cut hair/paper with ease. The notch in the spine is kinda a novel but also skeptical concept(used for bone cracking and hot pot lifting etc...), but after seeing the 12,000 pound durability tests that were done on it, I have no doubt it will hold up to my use. It's just shy of a pound which is great for a solid backpacking kit and comes with a sheath that can store a few other goodies like a fixed blade or sharpener. The coating looks great and the laminate Micarta handles look and feel perfect in my XL hands. I took it out today for some chopping and batoning(the thick flat spine was made for this), and it felt and cut really well. Home inspection revealed very little wear except for some cosmetic scrapes on the paint. No knife will reduce all shock from these activities, but the shock mitigation built into the grips seemed efficient enough for me. There is also a choil cut out near the grips that provides excellent dexterity and precision when one needs to choke up for the more intricate cuts being done. The only thing I would change is the amount of inside sheath retention. The molded plastic sheath that is sewn onto the nylon backing does not hold the blade at all with mine. I'm not sure how the others have received this but my plastic could use some heat applied to maybe tighten this baby up. It does however have two retention straps, a button and a 550 cord wrap. So unless you unstrapped both and ran a 5k or did some vigorous jumpin' jacks, she ain't coming out of it's home.-Overall a great blade to have and use if you're an avid outdoors-man/survivalist looking for a go-to knife. Buy here and save yourself $100.

Massive.
I did a lot of research and debated which knife to get for a potential Bugout Bag. It was a toss up between the BK9, KaBar big brother and the hoodlum.I choose the hoodlum because of its narrow blade profile, over all length and price.Bucks warranty is great so take it out and use it like it was intended. Brake it and buck will replace it.Quality on this is really nice. Only problem is the sheath seems lack luster. I'd prefer a kydex sheath but I can make my own in the future. Besides that it's a super nice and affordable piece of kit.Bugging out or destroying zombies, this is a great choice.

Great knife !
I really like this knife . The only thing that I'm not thrilled about is the notch in the spine of the blade , it creates a potential weak spot and I don't recommend hammering on the spine with wood , or anything else. The notch is useful thoigh for pulling a coffee perculator off of a campfire...If my review was helpful to you , please take the time to check the "helpful" box below.Thank you !

Great knife when it doesn't break.
My first one broke right at the notch while doing some batoning. Luckily I purchased it through Amazon and they sent me a replacement. I haven't gotten rough with the new one yet, but I am very skeptical that it will fair any better than the last. Great for lighter work but that notch being laser cut really weakens the material at that point and makes me feel uneasy about trusting it.

it's big!!
I ordered this knife after reading about it on the 'net. I wanted a good heavy duty all around camp knife. Wow it is big! I haven't had a chance to really work it yet but, it is heavy duty, comes quite sharp and fits my hand well. I still don't know if the blade notch will be a good thing in the long term, seems like it could be a weak spot under hard use.the scabbard is nice ,tho a little over the top for my use, kind "para military" like, but getting more is always better than getting less right? I think it's a good buy, quality wise, and should fit the purpose for which it is intended, which is not a belt carry hunting knife unless your 6'6" or more.

My personal one will take a razor edge and hold it in good form while beating through heavy brush and small trees
seeing as how I have the ones I need. (bought one for my Bro, too) These things are BAD@$$. My personal one will take a razor edge and hold it in good form while beating through heavy brush and small trees. Splits and chops great.

Absolutely Awesome
Unlike the knife I reviewed before (King Custom Damascus Handmade Hunting Knife.) This Buck Knife is one of the best things I have ever purchased. It was worth the cost. The blade is massive, sharp as a razor and looks as if it could be used for any survival situation. The included sheath has a good sized storage pocket and can be adapted to any type of gear for ease of carry. The knife came with detailed instructions for multiple uses and is incredibly versatile. This Hood Hoodlum also packs a "Wow" factor few blades can match. I absolutely love this knife.

Also was soll man sagen.....Für filigrane Arbeiten schon etwas wuchtig aber mit etwas Übung machbar.

hurry and get it already
This knife is a real looker. I am an avid outdoors man living in the deep north and this holiday season I had a chance to take it out to the woods and work it out. She has a good weight to her and holds an edge very well. Don't know why you would lash it to a stick though. Either way Buck knifes are a classic and it has a sweet name. Go get one.

CRAZY AWESOME
CRAZY AWESOME knife, excellent finish and craftsmanship as I would expect from Buck Knife. One hell of a nice sheath, that fits and holds the knife perfectly. I'm sure this will pass through my family for several generations. For the size it is quite light and very well balanced.
