Programming function is hit-or-miss
I have bought 4 of these from Amazon. The first one would still be in use, except our Shih-Tzu pup chewed up the first remote control and I discovered it is not possible to buy just a remote (I tried a "universal" remote but it could not "talk" to the DVR).Just in case our naughty pup located and chewed up the 2nd remote (which is exactly what eventually happened), I bought a 3rd DVR unit (only so I could get another remote) only to discover that by then Terk had redesigned the DVR as well as its remote, so I could not use the remote from new DVR #3 with old DVR #1 or #2. So, I had to junk DVR #1 (and #2 which had never even been used at all) and install DVR #3.I soon discovered that DVR #3 started goofing up my programming so that sometime before the actual program to be recorded was to start, DVR #3 took it upon itself to change the YEAR from 2020 to 2030, meaning that the program never got recorded at all. This continues to happen in 50% or more of the cases where I program, even when I double-check the programming schedule an hour or 2 before the program airs. The same programming anomaly also happens on DVR #4 (which I bought because I thought maybe #3 was simply defective as to the programming issue I just mentioned). I suspect some kind of engineering design error in the timing circuit used by DVRs #3 and #4, as all of my DVRs have always been connected to power through a UPS unit, so no chance of power spikes or interruptions. It records fine to a 64 gb 3.0 flash drive; but I was unable to record to a 2 tb 3.0 external hard drive as apparently the DVR is limited to recording to a hard drive no larger than 500 gb (which I don't have to try on it, so I can't verify it either way). It doesn't take too long before 64 gb gets filled up, so I have to regularly go through the list of already-recorded programs and delete the ones I don't need. It's an OK product for the price; but I do wish a remote control could be purchased separately instead of having to buy the whole DVR all over again when something happens to the remote. And, you can't bet your life that the time and date you programmed in will actually stay in the programming memory..There is also a substantial "lag" time when changing channels while watching live TV., sometimes requiring 2 clicks to get an actual channel change; and sometimes not. You never know when. If you do 2 clicks always, you will frequently bypass the actual channel you want to watch and then have to backtrack. One last thing: the remote for DVR #1 and #2 was far easier to use; the newer model is not an improvement but rather only a complication (with some buttons on the remote not even marked as to their function).

Does the basic convert/record job okay
I generally like this. It does the job. This seems to be an update of the RCA device I had earlier because the menus look and work almost the same. Buttons on remote are tiny, as others have mentioned, but al least the on/off button is now away from the play button so you don't turn it off accidently. The RCA version sometimes got lost and forgot to record something scheduled - it lost track of time, I think. This one has not shown that - yet. Also, this one shows more channel program info; for a particular channel it can show the next scheduled 10 or so shows, if the data is available. It's not a sophisticated device. There is no timed recording - once you start a manual recording, you have to also stop it manually. There's no commercial skip; you fast forward until you go too far, then back up and resume play. It takes a few seconds to start recording - so to not miss the opening scenes of a show, I start programmed recording at, for instance, 6:59 instead of 7:00.This device greatly distorts the colors when using the RCA cable connection. I had to adjust the color/brightness/contrast (some of them to the far end of their range) of the TV to see anything like realistic colors. So if you are using this on an analog TV to convert the signals - you can adjust your TV once and have just slightly wonky colors. On the analog TV, I use the RCA connections because that old TV does not have HDMI. HDMI connection cranks up the color enhancement some, but not disturbingly so. There is no coaxial connection for output to the TV; it's either HDMI or RCA.Make sure your memory device is fast enough. A slow data transfer rate capability will give a choppy/skippy recording. A Sandisk Cruzer Glide was too slow, for example. A PNY was okay. A one hour show broadcast at 720P takes up more than 4 GB . This records shows as .mts files. You might need a different program on a computer to watch the shows. The shows copied from the PNY to the Sandisk played okay from the Sandisk, though. I use 128 or 256 GB thumb drives. I don't know if the USB port can power a hard drive. So far the worst thing has been the color maladjustment on the analog signal. You'd pay a lot more to get a recorder with more or better features, so It's an okay deal.

Very frustrating to use
I bought this tuner to use as a DVR for some channels i can get over the air that are not on YouTubeTV. The unit is functional, but very frustrating to use. The remote control has buttons that are tiny (very tiny), and many functions completely conflict with my TCL Roku TV. The pwr button turns off the TV (while turning on the TUNVR2), the CC button turns off the TV, the vol down mutes the TV and many other conflicts.Terk has "universal remotes", but none support the TUNVR. Right now I'm trying to find a learning remote - the one I find on Amazon will be here in 30 days. RCA may have one that works, but it is not on Amazon that I can find.I can get it to work, but others in my household rely on me to make it work.I'd like it to work interactively with my TV, if it did i would buy more for other TVs. But not ready for prime time imho.

Pretty good, not perfect, but pretty good
This is my second generation and it is better than the last one, but still has a way to go. This beats not having a way to record TV programming. The fast forward works quite well so you can skip commercials in short order. Over all good functionality, not as good as Dish and Directv but not anywhere near the cost either. I don't have Dish, Directv, or Cable so off the air is what I get. I am glad I have this little guy!
