Don't Settle For The Cheap Dash-Cams - Will Hurt Your Pocket in The Long Run
This an immense value for the $160 price tag.I first want to address two points that people were saying as a negative which are absolute positives (at least for me):1) The mount is a bit tight - I cannot understand at all why people wrote this as a con. You do not want a window mount which is loose as every time you touch the menu buttons (even though I mostly use the app for settings - will get to that later) it will ruin the perfect placement you worked so hard for on your initial placement. I have not had to adjust the mount at all since my initial placement, which saves me a lot of time each time I put back the dash-cam after transferring data to my PC.2) This uses a "mini usb" port - People mentioned that this is not ideal as it's not as current as USB-C or even Micro-usb. For me, I could not have been happier when I saw this uses a min-usb... several dash-cams use mini-usb, including the previous two I have owned. What this meant for me was that I did not have to have someone hardwire my car again as the wiring from my previous dash-cam works perfectly - saved me $50. I know some people don't hardwire theirs, but I like the clean look and keeping my extra outlet available. (The included car adapter does seem plenty long enough to be hidden discreetly though).--Two things that I want to mention that I did not see in either the menu or product descriptions:1) This can take still photos (through either the app or device itself) while you are recording video and capture them clearly. The two photos attached to this review were taken while I was traveling at around 65 MPH. I do like to dabble in photography, own several high priced cameras and only one camera can take photos while recording video - and I paid over $600 for it (Sony RX100)... and even that will not record photos as clear as the X3 at such high speeds.1) This can use up to (at least) a 128GB MicroSD card. I bought the Samsung 128GB EVO Select Memory Card which has been working great for me so far.--WHY TO BUY THIS DASH-Cam:I did own a dashcam before, but needed to upgrade it for three reasons which the X3 has covered:1) Like a lot of dash-cams my previous one (a Papago) did not record clearly at night or when it was dark. The X3 records very clear videos and photos at night where I can read plates as far as about three car lengths away (about 4-5 car lengths during daylight). I was going to put a video sample in, but Amazon absolutely kills the quality by compressing it and I felt it would do the X3 an injustice - I'd suggest using YT for video references and not Amazon where the quality is compressed.2) My previous dash-cam did not have a parking mode. Not only does the X3 have a parking mode, it has 3 motion sensitivities to choose from. I did not hardwire an external battery yet, but did test it for a couple days with an external powerbank and it worked flawlessly to detect people walking by (I used the medium setting).3) Gravity Senor - While my Papago dash-cam did have a G-Sensor it failed on me. Fortunately, I haven't had a real-life situation on my X3 yet, but I was able to test it by slamming my trunk and hood - both seem to trigger it. As a precaution, I did buy a 128GB card, as I am a bit paranoid from when my G-Sensor failed on me on my last dash-cam and it ended up burning me.The lack of the above three items all ended up costing me money because my previous dash-cam either failed or didn't have those features.--I'm going to try and not waste everyone who's reading this time, but just want to point out a couple more things why I like this dashcam:1) You do not need to remove the suction mount to take the dash-cam. The mount has a slot where you can just slide in the dash-cam and you can remove the camera by pushing a button and just sliding out the mount. The mount also has a port to plug in the power cable (the dash-cam does as well).2) While the wi-fi/app did not factor in to my decision at all prior to buying this it sure is great to have. I'm primarily using it to change the settings. Even though changing settings within the dash-cam directly is very intuitive, it's still easier for me to change the settings through my very large screened phone. I do want to point out that if you do plan on sharing photos from your phone you can not do it through the app itself - after downloading your cameras photos or videos through the app, you need to go within your phones file manager to share the media... I only have experience with an android device as I do not own an IOS device.----In summary:In this review I am not advising you on why you would want a dash-cam, because if you are reading this you probably already know. The intention of my review is to inform on why you would want THIS dash-cam. Don't skimp on something cheaper as it may end up costing you more in the long run as it did me (significantly). As someone who is a photo person I'm quite amazed at the optics & technology this little dash-cam can provide. I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to write one now.

Has a lot of promise.
I'd rate this around a 3.5 to 3.75 if I could. After using it for the past week, I found a few things about it that make it less than a 5 for me:1. The car charger that it came with doesn't fit in any of the 12 volt sockets in my 2012 Accord, so it's basically useless. I have to rely solely on the mini usb with a 12v adapter to usb I luckily had available to operate it when driving.2. The app that was developed to pair with the camera needs a lot of work. It does have promise with software updates but for the price tag, I felt like it should've been better that what it is. For my phone, a pixel 2, I have to disconnect the mobile data for me to even be able to connect to the wifi ( I had to find this out through another poor review of the app). When in the app, you can view or start a recording, but you can't delete any footage. The ability to begin trimming some clips is a nice thought to have, but I thought it'd at least have an option to delete clips.I'll update this as I learn to use the camera more but so far it does its job.1/14/19 update:I just went on my longest drive to date and the camera was definitely recording the whole time. However, when I downloaded a video to test out the app again and check out the resolution, all my files were "no image available" and couldn't be played. They would just give me a loading circle or black screen when I try to play it both on my phone and desktop. I'm gonna try to test it again over these next few weeks as my commute is going to be this way for 6 weeks and around 20 miles one way. Not looking good for the product right now.1/16/19 update:Had to bump this down another star to 2 stars. Just 2 days later and I'm coming across more and more trouble and growing pains with the cam. Like another person said, it works GREAT when it wants to work or just works. The mic is clear and the picture is good. I just kept having problems with playback and recording. My videos would say that that they were recording, but I check my videos at the end of each day just to be sure of the product. On 1/15, everything was fine, but today my videos and their thumbnails are just black screens. I can't even play the video when pressing the play button on the cam. I can't even download it to my phone when this happens. I've reset the cam to default settings and formatted my sd card twice to see if this was the issue, but sadly no fix.The wifi is also very inconsistent. Sometimes my videos download quickly, other times I have to wait at least 10 mins to download a 3 minute clip. When downloading to your phone, if you look away and your phone screen goes black (sleep due to idleness), it cuts the download short as it doesn't allow downloading in the background.01/23/2019 update:A representative for the product, Cathy, reached out to me a day after I wrote my initial review to check in and help me troubleshoot some of my concerns about the product. She stayed in contact about the other issues I described in my 1/14 and 1/16 updates as well. She helped me solve the issue and gave me references so that I was able to confirm her suspicions. My issues stemmed from a faulty (FAKE --> made a novice mistake) SD card which she was quickly able to help me identify within a matter of hours (2 at most I estimate). I ordered a new SD card on amazon from Samsung and so far the camera has been good to me ever since. Recordings are all there and working.I still wish that the app was better and that the downloading speed is better. The app is the main thing that needs the most work. Just needs quick proofread of some pop up screens (i.e downloadning when trying to download a video), connectivity issues (just making it easier to connect rather than turning off my cellular data before it connects to my Pixel 2), somehow to increase the download speed, and being able to delete videos when connected to the device on your phone. These fixes would instantly make it a 5 for myself and a lot of people I know who are interested in getting a dash cam. I overall give it a 4.25 -4.5 now, but I rounded up instead of down due to Cathy's excellent customer service skills and assistance.

Easy to use, good quality, great customer support
Nice looking, very small - unobtrusive. Very light, but seems like good quality. They need to clean up the differences in their literature though, the first email they sent me said it can handle up to a 64Gb card. I was sure the original description I read said 128Gb so that's the card I got, I emailed them and they got back to me very quickly saying it can handle up to 256Gb card (and rereading the description it said 256Gb) so no problem. The user manual says up to 128Gb card, weird, please clean that up. Very responsive and helpful customer support. They could use with better English translation but they were good enough to understand, it's mostly just amusing. The in-camera UI is a bit weird, but also not bad. I'm sure I'll get used to it. But for the most part you don't really need it since it's mostly just click and go. Video quality is excellent when slow speed or stopped but is only OK when moving at road speeds. From what I've read (and seen online) of other cameras, this is common and this camera seems to have much better quality than some of the videos I've watched from other cameras.Overall, easy to use - simple. Very happy!

I just received the replacement suction cup for my camera, It was a no hassle situation their email response was right on. As mentioned they stand behind their product with the support which a customer needs after purchasing an expensive camera as the X3 Vantrue dash cam with Wi-Fi. The pictures are very clean and the camera fits in very well in the car (looks like it’s part of the vehicle well hidden in my Mercedes C400). There are so many features in the camera I am still learning how to use it. I have 3 other vehicles and on the verge of changing their dash cams with the Vantrue in mind , before doing that I will wait a little longer and play with the X3 to see what it delivers

Awesome
The media could not be loaded. Absolutely love this camera. I'm hoping my video has uploaded had this incident resulted in an accident it would of showed the passing semi passing on a no passing zone, cut right in front of me then slammed his brakes on 2x. I hadn't thought about getting a dash camera until recently seeing some terrible driving. I love the fact this model has wifi so you can download and save a video. The cool thing with the app once wifi is on it's not actually using data from your plan. It's like a bluetooth connection. I also ordered the GPS mount the only thing I wish is we could trim the speed off! Let's face it from time to time we all speed a couple mph over even by miskate. I just think if there was an incident and let's say 5mph over it could result in issues with insurance. So maybe Vantrue when you do a firmware update it would be handy to have the option. Anothe small minor ive found with a still photo cant always zoom in after to read a license plate. All in all I'm very pleased with the video resolution

good for the price
once you have this thing installed it's basically going to take care of everything from there. set your resolution, and install your micro SD card.my real only issue is noise in the image. when it comes to smaller details but it's over all not bad.aside from that it worked beautifully for a 5000 km roadtrip but. and here's the butt, the mount itself sticks awesomely. but the ball and socket mount the camera holds onto moves around whenever I touch the gas in my car. not much of a solution I can see there's no tightening that I can see.

Required high resolution
I am bit disappointed with the new Vantrue X3 cam is a nice product BUT...I can not read license plates from cars during driving on road, most are burry plates, can read some place numbers for less than 2 meters when car stop, I watch the video on tablet by trying enlarge the plate , unfortunately does not any better clear numbers....I need to catch the plate numbers is important proofs when drivers use road rages and distractions.I am looking a dash cam for high resolution up to 12MP or 20MP.
