Deceptively Good mashup
Got this a few days ago. Wasn't sure what to expect. It's awesome! While the cinematic are a bit PS3 Mass Effect quality, that's not an issue for me. The game graphics are smooth, and it's a VERY interesting environment. Reminds me of the movie "I am Legend" the way everything is dilapidated and overgrown. But there's new tech that works, like transporters for fast travel, and the jet pack you're able to get about 20 minutes into the game. The early enemies are hard, but if you get the jetpack before you fight all but like 3 big rats, you can fly away for a minute and your stamina is back so you can wail on them with whatever you have. The autosave happens whenever you set it to, default is like 3 minutes. I felt like that was too fast and if I got myself into a bad situation and it saved I would be stuck there forever, so I bumped it out a bit. All of the people talk that I've come across, so you don't have to read what they're saying. The control buttons are set, but you can invert both axis as required. The controls are pretty solid, and the defacto layout is easy to work with. The story so far is legit, and without spoiling it, it looks like some company screwed up some stuff for the planet.. There are items and stuff everywhere. You can do chemistry to make potions, lockpick, store things in lockers after you raid them, and there are no less than 50 sub menus for chemistry, weapons, items, etc. It sounds like alot, but the way they all fall under a main heading and are sub grouped makes it easier to find what you're looking for after about an hour. There's decent music, and aside from the main guys crappy attitude, the voice acting is fine. There's cussing, if that's an issue(alcohol and drug use too).. Honestly, I don't have much bad to say. It's been out for a yr or so, I think any early issues have been solved via patches. If you like some sci-fi, some apocalyptic stuff, some nature stuff, and some wizard stuff, this is your game.

Bad...
I can't review this whole game. Maybe that isn't fair, but I just couldn't get past the first hour or so. This game seemed to be hyped in such a way that I feel cheated out of my money. I won't write a long review here, but here's the thing...This game feels cheap. While the open world environment seems attractive, it feels like the characters were underdeveloped and plopped down in there. The voice acting in this game is horrendous. So dry, so boring. However, on top of that, there is a ton of still scenes where you have to listen to dialogue between characters that literally never ends. There's a bit of text select sections as well. You will spend the first hour killing two small mole rat type enemies and then nothing but boring chat between your Alpha-male idiot character and his new buddy who he may or may not "trust".Even if you could deal with all of that, the combat is worse. There is a HUGE lag between when you hit the action button, and your character actually swings the weapon. I'm reminded of the recent Fallout 76 issues. This is a clunky, terrible mess. Clipping, bad camera angles and more. Oh..and your first human enemy can one-shot you, and you gain nothing for actually killing him. It doesn't get better from there.Anyway, some people like this game, it's just not for me.

An extremely difficult and good RPG
I would've never found this if I hadn't been looking for low priced brand new sealed PS4 games, and Elex doesn't disappoint it really is a gem and more people should be playing it.Elex is an extremely difficult and good RPG that I bought based on people saying it was so difficult so I had to see for myself just how difficult it was, and now I'm actually enjoying it more than FallOut 4 which it seems somewhat similar too in some aspects. So for anyone that liked FallOut 4 but wishes it was more insanely difficult give Elex a try.Even on "Easy" mode the difficultly is punishing, so much that it seems very imbalanced compared to other games and that balance of power is wholly in favor of the enemies for a very long time since your equipment (armor, clothing, weapons) isn't good at all and practically every non-low level enemy can defeat the character with just one or two hits. Since the character starts off so under powered and stays that way for ages it's smart to only take on fights that he might win to gain experience in an acceptable amount of time, and avoid if possible or run away from those he doesn't stand a chance or which will take too long to defeat which is a good strategy to avoid constantly being defeated and reloading the most recent save, although constantly being defeated and reloading are unavoidable in Elex. Also the environment is deadly in some areas.I almost gave up on the game but I kept at it, and at about the 20 hour mark I started to enjoy it to the point it's one of the best RPG's I've played in years which is based upon it's difficultly, being able to go anywhere in the game world from the start to explore, etc. Once you start getting drop fed better gear by finding it or buying it the improvement is a noticeable difference making the character more able to take on and defeat some tougher enemies such as being able to finally defeat something that previously pummeled the character ten times in a row.The game allows you to eventually have companions, they're both a positive and negative. The positive is they can get the attention of an enemy so it mostly attacks them and help defeat it. The negative is they keep saying the same redundant things over and over enough that I wish there was a volume adjustment for the talking which I'd mute, they're also good at trailing a little too far behind you and bringing the enemies you're running away from right to your exact location. In some missions it's actually better to do them solo. Those complaining about the graphics quality I don't understand, sure it looks like a PS3 era game in many aspects but it doesn't look horrible either. It's perhaps on par with how FallOut 4 looked in my opinion on my PS4 Slim. The game is rather buggy and is in serious need of critical bug patches and it suffers from far too many crashes however if manually using Quick Save after doing even the most redundant of things won't result into having to re-do allot of things over again. You need to manually Quick Save allot (don't solely rely upon Auto Save), and don't forget to also regularly make a backup copy of the saved game data onto for example two USB 3.0 Flash Drives after exiting the game.

Good Company ... Piranha Bytes
All games have issues but I tend to identify with the way these folks think. The Gothic series, Risen series and now this with the jet pack ... excellent way to explore ... good story line as with all the previous titles. Now, I play a lot and have been since pong showed up at my local pub decades ago. Mostly play games with a story line, an adventure, like reading a book for me, I get lost in the fantasy ... well done PB ..!!
