USES A COUNTERFEIT FTDI CHIP
The small print description states "Chipset FT232RL,Support 3.3V, 5.5V, Not genuine FTDI chip". The chip itself is marked FDTI so these adapters openly use a counterfeit FTDI FTR232L Chip. I am rather surprised that Amazon openly and knowingly sells a product with a counterfeit FTDI chip. The FTPROG utility will not work with these counterfeits, meaning that the EEPROM cannot be programmed. So many of the features of a genuine FTDI chip cannot be used. The Serial# cannot be changed. The GPIOs cannot be programmed, and the data lines cannot be inverted. The Power descriptor cannot be set. So you are stuck with whatever EEPROM configuration the counterfeiters burned into the fake chip.So.you get none of the advantages of real FTDI device and might as well purchase a CH340, or CP2102 based device which are less likely to be fakes or counterfeits and will not have the driver compatibility issues that these fakes have.

Simply garbage.
Pure and simply trash! No micro usb cable will plug into this thing, it is useless. It looks as if it is mini usb, and who has mini usb cables? It should have said in the description that it was not micro usb, especially since that is the standard.Another major problem with the board is the pins are not labeled in any legible manor. They dont really show the pin out labels in any of the photos, and I just assumed it was because it was taken at a bad angle. Nope, the photos on Amazon will be the best clarity you will have.Purchase any other serial adapter but this garbage. I havnt even been able to try it, because I dont have any mini usb cables, I have tuns of micro usb cables(the standard cables). So even if you do have a mini usb cable, there is still a chance it will not work, wish I had read the reviews better before purchasing, many are rather negitive and I understand why.

Danger of damage to USB ports.
After a short on one it causes a current surge to connected USB devices ever after. My Mac panics and shuts down the moment it's connected. Very dangerous if your USB ports are not protected. Let me clarify, I pulled a connected esp8266, brushed it against the programmer. Not sure where but I felt it and my Mac rebooted. Since then it no longer works and causes a current surge.
