Neatly designed compact Dash Cam with excellent performance and features
Having acquired a Garmin satnav recently which has been absolutely fantastic so far, I naturally wanted to go for a Garmin dashcam to add to my car. I was impressed by the specs and features on the Dash Cam 55 model but having read through a lot of the negative reviews, I was almost put off but my previous experience of Garmin products overcame my initial fears.I wont go into too much detail about all the different features of this model which have already been well documented by other reviewers, only to say that the model I received has been running very well so far. Although the Dash Cam 55 does run warm which is normal according to the manual, I haven't experienced any of the overheating problems which others have. I presume this has been resolved by a firmware update which I initially installed. The speed camera database has also been installed several times without any problems. What I like most about this model is the brilliant small design, clear screen with easy to follow menus and mounting option where the camera just pulls off its magnetic mount without any fuss. There is plenty of cable to wire it in too and installation doesn't take too long. The quality of the 1440p video is very impressive in all lighting conditions and very good at night also. The footage is viewable on Garmins dash cam player for Windows or Mac which allows you to download the whole journey utilising gps data, the downloadable Virb app for smartphones or or you can access individual 1 min video files from the saved and unsaved folders and view them on any compatible video player such as Windows own player.I have to say that all the added features have all worked very well so far including the voice recognition. Maybe I have just been lucky with the model I received or Garmin have managed to sort out all the issues with this model. I will let you decide. All I can say from personal experience so far is that this is a very impressive dash cam which does everything it says on the tin. If anything changes, I will of course add to my review.

Good, compact dashcam
This is my second dashcam. I have a DDPai in our other car which produces good quality HD video and sound. I also have a Snooper speed camera detector in that car too. When I was looking for another dashcam, the Garmin caught my eye. The price was okay (not cheap, but not too expensive), it has a screen and it has a built-in speed camera detector (as well as other warnings). I also own several other fitness Garmin devices and have been happy with them.It comes with a generous length micro-USB to 9V car adapter and a swivel mount that uses a magnetic connector to mount to the screen. Installing it was a 10 minute job and the camera is pretty small, so doesn't stand out too much in your windscreen. Make sure you mount it where you can see the screen if you want to see the warning messages. The video quality is very good and I like the speed camera warnings. They warn you of cameras on the other side of the road, which is a little bit annoying, but overall you get plenty of warning when approaching a camera. You also get warnings if it thinks you're about to rear-end a car, drift out of your motorway lane or are still standing at traffic lights when the car in front has moved. It doesn't always get those right, but they're useful features that you can switch off if you don't like them.So overall, it's a nice compact camera with good video and sound plus some useful additional features. If my DDpai or Snooper packs up in the other car, I'd replace them with this single solution.

Good quality videos
I am initially very pleased with the Dashcam 55, good points, its discrete, small screen mount, video quality etc are excellent. what it provides is as good as advertised. the screen mount is really good with a strong magnet, no concerns with it falling off the screen, things to note! If you want parking mode, get the correct Garmin kit hard wire kit, otherwise potential flat batteries, i found that a certain large motor spares chain do them for £20, a pity that Garmin do not offer a bundle deal when buying the kit, depending on install you may need two piggy back fuse adaptors if tapping directly in to the fuse box, as a permanent positive and a switched positive is required to operate it when driving and when parked, and that is my preferred install , as opposed to the supplied the cigarette charging plug as it is a tad on the large size, when i first used it and it got in the way so got biffed within 24 hours !! as for mounting on the screen, select carefully, as the rear view/bulkhead on my car is a little invasive (Volvo XC) i tried to install it so that the visor did not clout the camera every time, the settings are simple, but after a week i go a tad hacked off with the lane warning on country lanes, and the speed warning ping every time i hit 61 mph or 31 mph , you get the picture!! so they will be disabled, that said the lane warning is excellent. would i bay again? absolutely! Finally the 5 voice instructions are good, if you want to instruct the device to save the video, but the rest are not of much use IMO, i also now know which pesky cat climbs over my car at night, as i have several pictures of its arse recorded on the parking mode!!!!!!

Sehr gute Kamera - leider ohne Saugnapf

Does more than I needed.
Has a bunch of additional features (e.g. proximity alerts) that I don't really need. All I was after was a dash cam that would record what happened if there was an accident, and this seems to be great for that. Good quality picture and easy to use.
