Good, simple and effective.
For the price this is a great little gadget. It's small, simple, fits to a tripod easily and allows either a phone or compact camera to be attached.Time-lapse video capture on my iPhone with this gentle panoramic movement looks really good and has impressed a lot of people.Downsides are that it only pans in one direction and you can't alter the speed, but for the price it's a really good piece of kit.

This item is quite flimsy, even for use with a phone. In particular, the connection between the base and the top (rotating part) is weak and bends out of alignment quite easily i.e. the horizon line in the timelapse images may not be straight. After using this a few times, I ended up buying one of the black metal cylinder type you see for sale under various brand names on Amazon. The metal one is a much more solid and robust item. It is also quite a bit heavier, but I think it's worth the extra weight to have a more reliable device.

good for smartphones; pushing it for nex cameras
this is great if you're into timelapses and you want an affordable option that creates a mechanical (as opposed to post-production) panning effect.the build is okay; it would show superficial wear and tear pretty quickly, but this is to be expected given the price.there should be no issues combining this with a smartphone as the smartphone is light enough not to cause a strain on the x-lapse's physical limitations. however, i bought it with a view to combining it with the nex 6 (the timelapse app is pretty nifty) and the 16mm pancake, but even that was a little heavy for the x-lapse. the x-lapse would still rotate, but the nex 6 would be slanted towards the heavier side.there are also inbuilt limitations to this mechanical device. you have the option of rotating the x-lapse 90 degrees in 15 minutes, 180 degrees in 30 minutes, or 270 degrees in 45 minutes. this means you can't make it rotate any faster or slower. but the fact that no battery is required may be a bonus for some.a final note: this product works best if you are able to place it on a completely level surface, for obvious reasons. the horizontal panning won't be level otherwise. something to take note of for users intending to screw the device unto a tripod baseplate.

Best piece of kit ever to spice up your timelapse footage.
Probably one of the best, most novel pieces of kits I've bought. There are loads of apps out there for making timelapses on iPhone and this absolutely puts a novel spin on things. Used it in a few movies, and of a few festivals I've put on or been involved in for shots of the crowd arriving. Having that 180 degree pan just animates everything wonderfully. This fits a standard iPhone 4S and 5 well. The iPhone 6+ I have is much slimmer and doesn't fit without some packing. I use my GoPro Hero 3 from time to time but much prefer the timelapses I get from an iPhone, but you can buy all the bits to get your GoPro to fit. It comes with a standard camera thread, but I'm too afraid to try and sit an expensive DSLR on top to be honest! There's a thread in the bottom end of the business to mount onto a standard camera stand. All you do is twist the unit 360 degrees, and it'll take an hour to do a full revolution.

Great for a play around but might not last
Great product for the price but had limited longevity (expected that with the price point) Took some great shots but after a week the timing mechanism became loose, when selecting either 15/30mins etc. the head would turn without the mechanism catching inside preventing the X-Lapse from rotating. After a little messing about I managed to get a week of shots out of it before eventually the mechanism gave up and rotated quicker than the time selected. If you want to play around with time-lapse on the iPhone then this is great but don't expect it to last for years.Link below to a video shot with the X Lapse.http://youtu.be/vuV8_9G-CiY

Works great until it doesn't
This product was great... until it stopped working. Something broke internally and even though I've disassembled it as much as possible (every screw taken out), there's still a component that doesn't come out - as if it's glued in or something. It lasted me about a month - I used it about 15 times.

Well designed but a bit fragile.
This is basically a kitchen timer masquerading as a photographic product. But it works!! And it's great value for its price. It's well thought out and the expandable feet and available screws give it great flexibility. Only bad comment would be it's fragility. Twist too hard and you could be in trouble. Plus... you can't undo the turn. So if your kids play with it, you will be hearing the tick-tick-tick-tick for a very long time.

Great idea, quite good looking but it turns out the mechanism is absolute rubbish. What a complete waste of time!
Great idea and good looking design. Sadly the 2 I bought for my sons GoPro's were both faulty. First one failed after just a few seconds, the clockwork mechanism simply stopped and although coaxed to start again was erratic and weak. The second wasn't much better, I'm so glad I checked them both as they were meant as gifts and my older son lives overseas, so that would have been straight in the bin. I must add, these failures happened whilst simply testing the clockwork mechanism not even under load as no camera or phone was fitted. However they arrived at a RRP of £29.99 I simply don't know and at £14.95 I think they're double what they should be even if they work. A complete load of rubbish made up to look like a reasonable product.
