Zmodo dual band security cam...alert, alert?
So I purchased this camera because it offered dual band, the other two I neglected to notice they only worked on 2g. This will also work on 5g.The camera is well built, my opinion and the pic is crisp and clear. There are a few options out there to purchase a dual band camera, but I figured there were no reviews so maybe I'll be the first to give this a shot. This camera was easy enough to set up, app and the configuration of camera, mounting was easy enough approx 8 ft off the ground screwed to wood frame. Power cord is approx 4 feet long. This camera does not require a Ethernet cable as other do to hook up to the wifi. All and all it's a pretty good camera for the buck.....but here is the kicker, It's suppose to give you an alert when there is motion. We are having trouble getting this to work. I honestly do no this want to send this back but the whole idea is to get a notification as to motion in the driveway and then being able to view. We signed up with the cloud but it seems to be cloudy as to why I'm not getting this feature. As it is now we get notifications here and there but nothing on video. And when we do drive by with car, nothing. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. We did join the 7 day free trial cloud hoping that would work...nope. I have tried support but all we get is ....this is Janet, I'm here to help, how can I help you. Then it says go to FAQ....then have nice day.Pros..well builtPic clean and clearEasy set upDual bandNo Ethernet cableConsSupport? No motion alerts?Even though we have had them off and onNot sure if there is a spot for a memory cardPay to play if you need more storage7 day cloud trial, still no alertsBottom line, it works, but not really.

Alerts only work 10% Of the time, lacks reliability!
I wish we had trusted the earlier reviews on this. In an effort to help others & be fair, there are pros & cons to this camera.Pros: Easy set-up. This really set up quickly. Although my husband is technical, looking over directions myself and watching him, there wasn't anything major to get this up & running which I think is a huge benefit. Decent app. I thought using the app was fairly clear, easily accessible. Great quality of images just as you'd expect for full hd.The Cons: Does not activate consistently! Other reviews said this and for some reason I guess we didn't believe them. We had this up for 3 days and it literally only gave us alerts 10-15% of the time. This is a huge deal breaker for me as my main point was to have alerts for package delivery and also so I know who is at my door at any one time. Recordings are choppy. We tested the 24/7 recording and it is not a constant stream but more like snap shots. Again, poor consistency that you just can't rely on.For us this camera simply did not work as it was described and certainly not in a way that fits our basic needs/wants in a front door camera. If you are looking for consistency in alerting you to action, this is not for you. If you just want a good quality image, and only care to look up at a live feed as needed and no need for alerts or steady constant recording maybe this would work for you.

Returning as defective: ZMODO needs to start preferring 5Ghz over 2.4, and have a way to factory reset.
My biggest gripe with ZMODO is even though they talk about dual band cameras, if you want to troubleshoot, you have to use 2.4Ghz. I set this camera up (easy) mounted it where I wanted (replaced a zmodo720p) and when i went to look at it, it said "Device offline." The camera was in a reboot loop. I removed it from my app, and now I am really screwed. "Customer support" tried to walk me though how to re-add it to my system, but a) my android prefers 5Ghz wifi, and this camera needs 2.4Ghz, apparently. b) the camera seems to be in a boot loop; green light comes on, flashes once, and then turns off. There is no way to factory reset these cameras once they have been configured. If you can't reach them, you are SOL.I have had 4 of the 720 p weather proof cameras for a few years, and they have been rock solid out of the box. I wanted better resolution in one area to see clearly further away (especially at night), so I thought i'd upgrade. I am going to return this camera as defective, and may (or may not) order another one.

Outdoor-at your expense.
This states it's an outdoor camera but it is not weatherproofed, nor is the cord compatible with the majority of outdoor outlets. It's a micro USB connection to the camera and a two prong non-weather proof plug that you'd use for a cell phone. And it's about 6 feet long ..most people would mount their camera higher than this for an outdoor location. Also the "outdoor camera setup guide" states not to place it where there's concrete or metal between the router and the camera...that limits the outdoor location if you have a brick house. Very deceptive sales practice. I was hoping to find something comparable to my Nest outdoor camera at a lower price (which is manufactured for outdoor use and placement and you literally take it out of the box and install it...no 'weatherproofing by the consumer" required) --i can say that the image quality is similar, but the trade off in this case is a lot of hassle and uncertainty whether any part of this product can withstand the outdoors. I definitely don't want to find out the hard way.

Nice camera, no support, and terrible user interface.
Terrible customer support from Zmodo. My web access is four hours off and to get to where I can see the motion that I was just alerted for takes so much time that it's a waste. I have contacted them several times and have yet to get an answer. (and yes I am set to the right time zone) The web interface is horrible at best the grey writing on the white background in a 6 pt font is impossible to read. Even when connected to my high speed wired cable modem getting the feed to show up is a horrible time of guessing where the time should be then reloading the page and waiting to see if it will show up. The My clips and My cloud tabs on the web interface do nothing, and there is no explanation for them. It's sad because it seems like a great camera, just need some engineering behind the user interface. Now my 30 day trial ended so I cannot even update this to let you know if that is fixed.
