Very pleased.
Okay, let's deal with the elephant in the room first. NGL—as others have pointed out this is not a 'whisper quiet' device. When I switched it on I almost had a heart attack. But... I got used to it very quickly. It's a very high speed fan (even on its lowest setting) and it has a high speed fan noise to it. But even with the unit in a small home office (I'm guessing around 4m x 5m) I can hear the radio perfectly well and I can make telephone calls. I'm not sure I'd want to listen to it non-stop for eight hours a day but I've been using it in half hour (or less) bursts to cool the room down and I'm not finding it offensive. On the plus side, it seems extremely efficient at cooling. It has a variety of modes, including auto, where it decides whether to just use the fan or to combine the fan with AC. I used this for a while but then decided I'd switch to straight AC only mode to get the temperature down quickly (so I could then switch it off for periods—see above). It emits a strong icy blast and gets the temperature down nicely. The vent can be positioned up/down/left/right which is quite important because there is a very strong blast and papers stuck to walls and notice boards were flapping around until I redirected the airflow.I didn't want to bother chopping holes in the side of my house to vent it so bought one of the long extension hoses with it. This means I have the unit floor-standing and quite an ugly pipe trailing along to and then out of a top window. It won't win prizes in a Homes and Interiors beauty contest but it does the job.Having a remote is great; can sit at my desk and switch it on/off, adjust temperature etc. without having to get up. This means if I have a phone call where I really do want to kill the fan noise I can do so very easily. One word of caution. It's heavy. I struggled to get the box upstairs by myself. Once there it was fine because it's easy to move around on its castors, but it's probably a two man lifting exercise for anything other than on the flat.

Good product for hot weather and small rooms
Overall this is a decent product that does what it's advertised for.Pros:Works well for small rooms or areas and blows cooled air;Not a lot of excess water generated;Controls and remote easy to use;Visual temperature sensor displays with accurate readings;Has heating function as a bonus for winter or colder periods; On wheels so can be repositioned fairly easily;Vibrations are not an issueCons:Noise levels still fair high, enough to become tiresome after prolonged usage (~50dB on compresor side and over 70dB air flow side with low setting);Heavy unit, can be rolled around but not easy to transport (22kg)Requires additional window kit and exhaust extension for use in a flat (would only work as is in a house with a pre drilled cut out)Not efficient for medium to large rooms. 7000btu is only good for small rooms or areas approx 10...12 Square meters at most.Overall can't fault it as it does work for what they advertised it. Not the best solution but a decent one for hot weather.

As good as it gets in the sub £500 category
This is a fantastic air conditioner based on my experience of using other portable models. I was skeptical about buying this given there are many people who have reviewed it poorly but I think many poor reviews are unfair.1) Yes, it generates more noise than a fan. It has a condenser and these are noisy. Professional AC units have theirs outside which is why they are quieter.2) Yes, you need to pump the hot air out of a window and are best to seal the window. I use bubble wrap as a temporary solution which is cheaper than a window kit and very effective. The hot air has to go somewhere...3) No they don't cost an extortionate amount to run. 700w on low with the condenser running. at 15p/unit of energy thats around 10.5p an hour assuming it's running 100% of the time. Once it's cooled the room, it cuts out automatically so costs drop.I have the older model of this which has less functions and is much noise. I can sleep with it although at times, i found it frustrating. This model is MUCH quieter and compares well with £400+ machines I've used.It is also much more compact than older versions too and although still heavy, is easier to move from room to room. It self evaporates if leaving on long enough too so no draining of water. It's great. It really is.

Even if it does cool a room, the noise will leave you hot and frustrated
We bought this to cool our bedroom in the summer months. It does cool the room a bit but the noise (64.4 decibels on sleep mode) and (69 on fast) is very loud so impossible to sleep with it on. Also has 6 quite bright LED lights in yellow so doesn't keep it dark. Just ended up getting frustrated more than found it a benefit. It's also extremely cumbersome.
