Works really well for me, so far.
I've just finished my third batch of roasted coffee beans but it is enough to know that this roaster is going to be just fine for me.The first roast was set at 24deg with 350gms load. The first crack signs are obvious but they happen from 3 mins into the roast and continue for another 10mins! The second crack is quieter. The beans are all at different stages of roast the stages are staggered over several minutes. After 15mins the beans were quite dark and oily and I stopped the roast. The roast was quite dark and I removed, say 5%, of the beans which were completely black. The resultant expresso was a little bitter for my taste. The roasters stirring bar seemed to tumble the beans almost throughout the process. However, the roaster appears fuller, the more you progress in the roaster because the beans well in size.(All the roasts were started by pouring the green beans into an already pre-heated roaster.)The second roast of 300gms I set to 220deg and after 10 minutes I turned the temp down to 0deg and let the beans revolve for a few minutes to cool before starting mechanical cooling. There wasn't much of a second crack. The beans appeared to roast more evenly with hardly any black beans but there was still a marked difference between the lightest and darkest bean. The resultant expresso was a marked improvement in taste over the 1st batch and of "shop-roasted" beans. Maybe the best coffee I have tasted. Perfect. The third batch weighed in at 240gms and the temperature turned down from 220deg to 0deg after about 13 minutes. Not the most even roast but all the beans light brown/mid-brown. No black beans. Again, not many of the beans seemed to achieve second crack. I guess the roast might be the equivalent of a blend for that reason?I'm learning with each batch and looking roast number 3 procedure as my starting point - 220deg for 12-15mins. I'd recommend this roaster as a starter roaster and I'm not anticipating having to upgrade it at this stage.

Cheap introduction to coffee roasting
I bought this to roast coffee with the hope I could use it to roast nuts and seeds as well. The instruction manual that comes with it is pretty basic, don't expect "typical" roasting times in it.The roaster has a stirring rod that rotates once the unit is switched on. A separate temperature dial sets the temperature from "off" to mid 200 celsius.I have tried it several times with coffee. I use it outdoors to avoid fumes in the house. One thing I noticed is that it struggles a little to hold the highest temperatures on a cold day (below 10 degrees celsius).Roasting coffee is fairly simple - although some of the smallest beans can get caught under the stirrer. The machine is easy to clean with a cloth except for the lid which needs a bit more effort. One thing that is a little hard is getting the beans out of the machine - it doesn't pour very easily, so you really need to empty the beans into a large receptacle that is easy to pour from.Nuts roast easily as well, however seeds are a problem because of the small size. The good news is that the stirrer is easy to take off so it is easy to clean out the seeds stuck under it.Overall this is a good introduction to coffee roasting, it allows you to vary amounts, temperatures and times.

Value for money, effective, easy to clean, easy to use
Really like this product, it's value for money in my opinion bearing in mind that one can pay thousands for roasters, love the way that if the turning bar gets stuck, it will automatically turn the other way, Product is easy to use and really easy to clean,As regards the first batches that I did, I think I had the temperature too high (at 210°) because the beans were roasting unevenly, I agree with what other reviews said about turning the temp down to 180°, I cooked a medium to dark roast at first but I felt having the temp too high (at 210°) didn't help with the overall taste and I lost some of the uniqueness of the flavours with the full roast time being 23 mins, I was using Colombian Supremo beans, (now don't get me wrong the coffee wasn't bad but I think I could do better in terms of flavour by adjusting the time and lowering the temp), eventually I will do another roast with the same beans (at 180°) and maybe for 16-18 mins instead to see if I can get a better resultOf course I need to try different varieties of beans as well which I hopefully will get round to real soon

Good Basic Coffee Roasting Equipment
I'd ordered this product with a view to start learning about roasting my own coffee beans since I'm the type of person to spend months researching something before actually committing I knew exactly what I was getting along with the pros/cons.It's important to make clear that this is the best way of roasting coffee beans, however as a relatively inexpensive start point I don't think you can argue with it. The home roasting market is very scarce when it comes to products so this acts as a decent intermediary.Yes, your beans may be impacted by the non-stick surface, by the uneven roast times etc. But you just have to take the time to learn the personality of the machine. I'm certainly happy with my device, though don't expect to recieve it instantly! Mine took about a month to arrive.

No UK plug
Sadly I returned this machine as it does not have a UK plug. This is not mentioned in any feed back. I now notice the the contents should have contained a 'converter'. Is this a missing plug adaptor? Clues as to how to roast beans, or the quantities the machine will hold, are non existent. I am very disappointed I had to return this item as all home roasting websites say it's the best. Standard Delivery was as predicted.H Hennessy
