Sharp
Use this sharpener regularly on all of my knives and it sharpens with ease so the blades cut through all veg and meat with little effort. Before purchasing, I read one or two negative reviews but decided to take a punt; and it payed off. Those complaining, must not be using it correctly because my blades are as sharp as they have ever been. Definitely reccommend.

Always returns sharpness to my blunt knives.
Always returns sharpness to my blunter knives, what I don't understand is why this item is age restricted, its not a knife, how could it actually harm anyone, the only thing that occurs to me is that because it has the ability to return a blunt knife to being sharp that could then be dangerous but this is of course assuming you have a knife already.

Ok
This is quite big and heavy which makes it stable and easier to use. However the couple of times I’ve used it so far my knives come out of the sharpener with tiny but visible ridges along the blade. So far this doesn’t seem as good as a wet stone roller type sharpener I have for global knives.

For generic kitchen blade grinds this is an an excellent honing steel
Bought for £22, Aug 2015. Despite the name this isnt a real sharpener, as it doesnt remove (thin down) the blade material to a new edge. Its a preset angle steel that realigns the micro abrasions on a blade. I have worked professionally in kitchens and was recommended this from a butcher friend, as its cheaper than professional grade honing steels. For generic kitchen sabre, full flat or hollow grind knives it provides a very consistent angle and the results are excellent. For more custom japanese or scandinavian blade grinds the set angle might not be appropriate. In three stokes (lightly pull-push-pull) it will quickly and easily maintain a blade edge and keep a sharp knife sharp. For dull blades there might be a slight improvement, but you really need to sharpen it by removing blade material and re-establishing a blade profile not realligning it. A great generic kitchen knife steel. Highly recommended.

Effective
Tried everything to sharpen Kitchen knives but nothing as effective as this. Stones & stuff work ok but getting the right angle of grind with a stone is hit and miss and without the right angle of grind the sharpness doesn't last. This does it all for you with just a few pulls of the knife. Recommended.

Only any good for knives that are already sharp
If you have brand new knives honed to 20 degrees this will keep them sharp and is very easy to use. But don't expect it to bring back a blunt knife or a home-sharpened knife where the 20 degree angle may have changed because it won't or at least I couldn't get mine to.

I was fed-up with steels
My son recommended this and I also read the reviews on Amazon, some of which were extremely helpful, thank you. I'm very, very happy that I bought it. All my knives are now superbly sharp, even the tips, which can be done with care at the end of the main sharpening process. Compared with using a steel, which I've done with very moderate results for years (probably my fault) this device is excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend t. I gather there was some debate about it spoiling some knives, but these knives were specifically mentioned by Taylor's as unsuitable. I've sharpened Kitchen Devil, Lakeland, Thomas and Stellar, as well as a couple or so unbranded knives and al are good. I spent maybe 2-3 minutes to bring them up, and now run the knife through the sharpener every day, as recommended, for a few seconds.
