Great product but watch the vertical hold [UPDATE: Broken by High Sierra]
I've been using this with an iMac to capture old videos. In principle, use of this device is dead easy: connect to USB and the VCR (either through composite video or S-video), and record in Quicktime Player.Unfortunately, this device does not include time base correction, so getting vertical hold to settle was sometimes a pain. It would often take a stop-and-start of playback to get vertical hold to lock in. Many of the videos I've been transferring (especially old Betamax) wouldn't settle down at all. (I connected an analogue camcorder and there were no vertical hold problems.)You'll be pleased to learn that I found a simple fix. By passing the video through a VCR with S-Video output, I was able to correct all time base errors and get the device to work perfectly. So I recommend this, but you may need to add some form of time base correction into the chain to get acceptable results, if you're starting from low quality sources.UPDATE NOVEMBER 2017I updated my iMac to High Sierra. I have tried every available version since release and this system update has killed the USB audio—I now no longer get more than a second of audio before the device freezes, although video on its own works fine. I suspect this is not the manufacturer’s fault but the item is now useless on my Mac unless I start from an old system or Apple releases a fix.

No drivers to install but synchronization a problem
At last we can transfer our old VHS home movies onto a Mac. The hard thing was finding a VHS player which still worked. The grabber device is very easy to use. It was a great relief not to have to install driver software. At first there were some issues of synchronization, in that the picture as captured jumped around quite a bit, but I put these down to the old VHS player I was using. Anyway, after a few replays it all settled down, and I'm pleased with the captured results.UPDATE and reduction from 5 to 3*: I had assumed that the picture jumping was down to the very old VCR but no, I have sourced a VCR in much better condition and the same is happening. It makes the captured videos unwatchable. It seems to work for short clips but loses sync after a few minutes.

Great bit of kit , reasonably priced
Had an issue with the first one ordered as it wouldn't play properly throughly IMAC , however the sellers were excellent and sent out an alternative one straight away which worked without any problems. Great to se all the old family videos again.
