I usually use 240gsm glossy photo paper for printing greeting cards, so I take it the top tray is the one to use only for what I print? Seems odd Epson have changed to have a front - flat loader after all these years.

The XP860 has a duplex autosheet feeder for A4/letter sized paper. It'll reliably do bundles of about 25 pages. The other comments presumably are talking about other versions of the same printer family.

Will this work with windows 7

Yes it works ok with Windows 7. But be warned about it stopping working at some point down the line and also stopping you using the scanner. This is down to Epson deciding it's printed enough regardless of the quality of the prints you are getting.
