Yes it does play cascades. And many other lovely tunes as well as very loud tunes, the choice is yours

No battery necessary in the sounders as they plug into a socket. No battery necessary in the bell push as it generates a tiny amount of kinetic energy each time the button is pushed.

Q: Lots of reviews mention too many long tunes.... is there a plain ding dong option?

Yes there is, but you have to try many before you get to it... I went past it by mistake and had to go round again... other than that it is a good unit and having two was a great option. The battery less thing is real too, so I can recommend, ding dong isn’t a deal breaker for me
