Take this journey with Rick. You'll be glad you did!
I have enjoyed all of Rick's series especially his Food Heroes. All the series are fine, fun, informative. Rick is my favorite celebrity chef mainly because he does not act the fool as one Mr. Gordon Ramsay does and he seems to know a thing or three unlike the dear Naked Chef who shall remain nameless who claims never to have read a book. Rick is sensible. Rick is true. You know he has integrity that you can actually trust. INDIA: IN SEARCH OF THE PERFECT CURRY is so well-made. So beautifully shot. And, as ever, Rick is charming and just damn likeable. He takes us to unexpected places this time and my armchair traveler revels in his exploits and make me yearn for the dishes, sights and sounds, the very flavors that Rick is enjoying and promoting. I have already secured the ingredients and made Rick's favorite curry the Madras Red Snapper Curry with Tomatoes and Tamarind as well as Nimish. Wow! WOW! What successful dishes. I have already had requests to make them another time. Next is Rocky's Chicken Korma followed by the cod curry. It helps that I bought the recipe book that accompanies the series. (I buy all of them due to the fact that the DVDs are so inspirational - I run right out and make as many of the dishes as possible.) I have even sourced and purchased Stone Flower and Amchoor and Black Cardamom - ingredients that heretofore were never in my pantry. Thanks Rick. (I miss Chalky. We all miss Chalky.)

Very nice - Bahut Aachaa!
Hugely enjoyed the television series and then ordered the book which is well thought out for those who want to actually cook some of his dishes. The back of the book has a lot of very useful little tips. I was sorry though that his BBC researchers had made such a fist of some things; knowing India as I do and returning there annually for six weeks I had been to a lot of the places. The fact that he was not told of Mamallapuram the UNESCO world heritage site and the famous Shore Temple and the Panch Rathas was unforgiveable....he happened on it and then discovered the fish restaurant on the beach. In fact the very beautiful resort he was in front of would have given him wonderful gardens in which to cook! Moreover he was slightly uncomfortable with the Rajput nobility and his faux pas asking that Thakur's lady had she married up was dreadful.....in India where arranged marriage and suitability is everything it yet again displayed BBC arrogance and ignorance....I also found they had put him into a new brash hotel in Cochin whereas that city of all in India has lovely places....in superb location on the harbour. I actually wrote and told him all this. It is a good series, he enjoyed making it, the book is worthwhile and I have now bought the DVD to give as a gift to a Chef in India!.

Fantastic!
Everything you need to know about Indian cooking is here. Rick Stein is a true professional and a gentleman, and his passion for what he does flows through his cooking in this and every other DVD he has partaken in. I also purchased the book that accompanies this series on Indian cooking (as a reference point). These DVDs are a joy to watch. If you want pretentious high-street cooking then watch some mainstream-channel cookery series - (there are a lot of celebrity "chefs" out there) - but if you want to see how local people cook then this is the DVD set to watch on Indian cooking. The culture and regional history of each dish is explained and Rick takes a very objective and balanced approach to Indian food. He explores all types of local dish as cooked by the indigenous people according to region and social environment. Domestic, street and hotelier cuisine are recorded. Rick then seeks to emulate these same dishes back in our world based on his personal notes, memoirs and observations. The camera work and sound are excellent to say the least. Rick Stein is my primary reference for Indian and Asian cooking. I cannot recommend this 2-DVD set and the accompanying book highly enough. In one word - fantastic!

Enjoyed this a lot. Not quite as good as his DVD on Spain, in my opinion, but after watching this I splashed out on a couple more of his products. Must say, I thought the Dalai Lama came across as a bit of a fruitcake in the interview he did with him. I'm not sure what, if anything, that brief segment added to the program, but on the whole another great watch for a slow start to a Sunday morning.

This Will Make You Hungry Watching This.
As Usual Great Speedy Dispatch That Always Gets Here Within Three Days So Thankyou For That To Everyone. Well The DVD What Can I Say - I Mean We All Eat Food So Who Could Not Like Food Travel Programmes On TV Or DVD. I Think That Rick Stein And Keith Floyd Are Still Probably The Best And Most Entertaining Of The List of Culinary Food Journalists That Show You More Than Just The Cooking , You Always Get In-Depth History And The Story's Of The Peoples And Cultures Of Each Country They Travel To Which Makes You More Than Ever Appreciate Your Foods And How They Arrive Here - And From Often Poorer Countries That Grow And Harvest Their Produce For Most Of Us To Sample And Enjoy. This Is As Usual Pin Sharp And Beautifully Crisp Picture Quality For DVD , Shows The Food To The Absoulute Best Examples. Would Love These Series On Blu Ray. A Must Buy For All.

That's a mind blasting curry Ricky!
Got this as a Christmas present for my dad as we both share an interest in Rick Stein and Indian cooking. I happen to own a business in the spice trade as well and my work surrounds Indian cooking. I can only say good things about this selection of episodes. Very interesting and in depth as Rick Steins programmes usually are. It isn't just about the cooking with him, its about going as deep as possible into the heart of Indian cookery and seeing how it is really done. How chilli's are smashed to a pulp to literally make fresh chilli powder right in front of your eyes for example. Rather than just being a bloke on a beach cooking a Curry. Plenty of adventuring around in this series and a great buy for the price, especially if you are a big fan of Indian food and/or Indian cooking. I would also strongly recommend the book for this series which is equally excellent.
