Audio-Technica ATR-4697 ATR Series Omnidirectional Condenser Boundary Microphone - Black

Our Talking newspaper have been using the ATR97 series of microphone for recording a talking newspaper for some years, one problem was that if the battery was changed by an unskilled person, they tended to flatten the retaining spring in the base of the microphone resulting in intermittent connections. The ATR-4697 looks identical to the ATR-97 but it has a much better spring arrangement in the battery compartment. It also performs very like the ATR-97, I cannot see any difference in recordings made with both types of microphone. Only grouch I have is having to turn the microphone on and off but we can live with this. For the price the microphone performs very well, it is quite sensitive and picks up sound from two people speaking normally around a table.

I ordered this to use with skype conferences at work. The mixed reviews concerned me but they were about 50/50 good to bad so I decided to give it a go.The biggest issue we had was that the person talking had to be very close to the microphone, not really what we wanted. The quality was no better than the TV mounted microphone we were looking to replace.I returned to amazon for a full refund.

I use this as a secondary mic to record the discussion during a class. Picks up voices around long conference table clearly. Comes with a 1/4" adapter and a battery.

It does the job at a reasonable price

It ate batteries for breakfast, and it just wasn't that good if used over 4 foot away from the people in the meeting. If you had a big meeting in a big room, the person on skype was just not getting anything.
