Thule Fit Kit for 400XT and Rapid Aero Foot

I purchased a used Thule 400XT roof rack for my 2008 VW GTI and THEN realized that the KIT2141 was discontinued… I couldn’t find this kit ANYWHERE thus, I had to either sell it or figure out a way to Frankenstein it so that it would work.When I bought the used rack it came with the KIT2177 which is for some Hyundais, Infinitis and Nissans. This is not important but what IS important is that the kit came with the 525 and 527 clips 525 and 527. These clips are not sold as being compatible with a MKV GTI, however it does actually work for the rear bar; SCORE. Now, for the pads and front clips…This is where the 2177 kit came in handy for me. The 2141 kit contains 4 110 pads, and so does the 2177 kit; SCORE. I have my pads and I have my rear clips. The 2141 kit comes with the 512 and 513 clips, the 512 clips for the front and the 513 clips for the front, the 2170 kit comes with the 508 and 512 clips; SCORE!So, in summary, This kits front clips and all pads will work for a MKV 3 door GTI if you need it to.

I purchased these in combination with everything else required to install the Thule roof rack system on my Chevy Impala. Long story short, nothing beats factory installed roof rack systems.I have 2 issues with this. First, on the rear passenger's side door, the door actually somewhat sticks to the foot that hangs down. Second, on the front, driver's side door, it has actually presented a leak in the door (it didn't cause the leak, but these do remove the redundancy leak protection around door seals).However, these are mostly easy to install by simply following the directions. I think the entire system took about 45 minutes for a first time installer who had no experience with anything like this and no additional help. They are also exceptionally sturdy.One thing to keep in mind in the installation process is to tighten down both sides at the same time (or couple of twists on this side, couple on that side as I had to do).

Couldnt find a definitive fit kit number for an '04 Elantra GT hatchback and almost gave into buying a new complete rack. However, after doing more looking at new complete racks, I noticed they all came equipped with the fit kit 101. Although, not noted and more researching later, turns out this fit kit 101 also fits the older 400(non aero) footpacks(which I have), so I decided to order it up and give it a try. The directions do not give details on an '04 Elantra GT, but turns out the directions for the 2000 Elantra are spot on for the 2004 also. This kit comes with 2 different length brackets...you will need the shorter brackets up front and the longer ones in the rear...same as the 2000 Elantra. Fits both 4 door sedan and 5 door hatchback versions, and the measurements are all the same. So glad I did the extra surfing to find out this kit was indeed what I needed cuz it saved me hundreds on a new rack.

I got a used Thule 400XT but it didn't fit my 2006 Mazda 3 hatchback because the existing feet and clamps weren't the right shape. After searching around a little bit I found this fit kit and crossed my fingers. Turned out Thule knows what they're doing! It was super easy to change out the old fit kit parts and replace them with the new ones from the fit kit.Mounting directions were short and crystal clear. Installation was easy and feels solid as a rock! The feet and clamps exactly form to the roof edges of the car to provide that rock solid feel and reassurance. I have had no qualms about throwing several SUP boards up there, a desk in cardboard packaging, etc.Now to get rid of my rear mounted bike rack and get them up on this solid roof rack too! Thanks for doing a great job with this kit Thule, you've really made transporting my toys around a lot less hassle.

Overall this system works very well. Understand there are 4 brackets that look very similar. There are actually three different parts. One for front left, one for front right, and the other two are identical for the back bar. Easiest install is with two people so you don't have to play tug and war and not pull the foot pad out of place. The 400XT system once you have tighten the feet down and locked in place. Drive around, best with a load on top for a few hours and check to see if it loosed up. If it has, tighten so it's snug. The new Rapid Aero Foot system has a Torque indicator built in the clamp system to tell you when it's tight enough to eliminate that step as well as not to over tighten system and not bend the bracket. Most likely depending on the aerodynamics of your car, I would recommend an Air Foil. Make sure it's the size for your vehicle/bar length. If your using longer bars than recommended, go with the wider fairing.

These feet seem to work, although the fact that the documentation that comes with them seems to indicate that they are intended for a 3 door hatch instead of the 2 door coupe that is sold in the US does not instill a lot of confidence in me. The fact that there are grooves in the roof that the feet don't match suggests to me that Thule designed these for a different car. That being said, my roof racks have yet to tear from my roof, or cause my roof to buckle under the load of two sea kayaks, so 4 stars.

This fit kit is now discontinued from Thule factory store. Therefore amazon was the only location I could find it for a decent price :) perfect fit and love my roof racks!
