This 2 CD + Pure Audio Blu-Ray disc presents this benchmark recording in re-mastered 96kHz/24-bit audio. The hardback book includes the libretto, synopsis in English, French and German as well as session photos and more. Sensational....but do we really need this?
I would have given this five stars regardless. It is a sensational recording, soundwise and performancewise. Is this just another "re-mastering" to get us to re-purchase???? I now have this on LP, cassette, and two CD versions. I need to consider if I need yet another copy. And can the sound really be that much better? Afterall, it was fantastic when it came out about 50 years ago! All that said, everyone who cares about opera needs to have this recording. It is right up there with Solti's RING.PS If the sound is as improved on this set as it is on Solti's Parsifal....then you should have this

Decca's "Sonicstage" Elektra... a true classic of the gramophone.
A supreme achievement in the recording studio; Decca's "Sonicstage" Elektra is a jewel in the crown of Western civilization. Solti, the Vienna Philharmonic, Birgit Nilsson, Regina Resnik et al deliver sonic and dramatic megatonnage! The results of this commixture of Solti's indefatigable baton, a virtuoso orchestra, peerless vocal talent and Decca's 1960s hi-tech in the recording studio - take a bow, John Culshaw - remain as testament to the artistic genius of more civilized times... we are not worthy. Superb sound quality - Blu-ray Audio is the format of choice for those seeking hi-res, sonic perfection. This Limited Edition hardback book format set includes a full libretto, text and translation. A Decca classic.. needs no recommendation from me.

This was probably Nilsson's greatest role. The whole thing is beautifully presented
This high-res issue of this classic recording from the early 60s sounds magnificent. This was probably Nilsson's greatest role. The whole thing is beautifully presented. Highly recommended.
