I decided to make sail blinds for our orangery roof. This tarpaulin set did the job, easy to use and adds the finishing touch to my blinds.

Had to fit these outside on concrete base to get enough pressure. If like me you have never seen these before, put the larger grommet with the extended centre into the tool-base, put fabric over this with good side facing down, put flat half of grommet over the top so its edges clamp the fabric. Insert the tool then hammer on the tool a few times, not too hard, to gently roll the metal over. Keep trying 3 or 4 gentle to medium blows and check for any give between the two halves of the grommet. Try another few knocks until tight. You might have to tilt the tool slightly to one side if the grommet doesn't clamp evenly all the way round. Nice neat finish. The cutter works better for leather rather than fabric but even expensive cutters don't seem to perform well, best cut with curved nail scissors.

A number of reviewers complain about the cutting tool, but I found that mine cut adequately through single sheet plastic, and the grommets did an adequate job, but no more. If you just want a quick simple fix through thin material, this set will do the job, but if you want longevity and a quality finish give this pack a miss and go to Screwfix or similar. The kit cost just over £6 and the quality and effectiveness is on a par with the price.

Received these with the intention of installation into polythene sheet. First problem I had was there are no instructions whatsoever. After trying a couple of attempts I worked out how it was supposed to be used. Second problem was the hole cutter wasn't sharp so mostly just tore the polythene - not thick polythene either. Third problem was the pieces intended to hold the washer wasn't the correct size, so the washer moved when hameering the other piece in. Fourth problem then was the throat of the washer didn't crimp down squarely so on every attempt there was a sharp edge jutting out in the centre of the eyelet, every time I had to then hammer that down.Very disappointed with this. Granted the first few weren't good due to my experiments to work out how to use it but the tools were poorly machined.

The punch and eyelet fixing stamp seem fine. Decent tools and I'm glad I got them.Sadly, the eyelets themselves are absolute junk. At least half fail to mate and need to be thrown away. They're simply too thin, they're more like a thick metal foil than metal that's any good to be used in a fixing capacity.When you try to mate them, rather than the base of the eyelet flanging out to fix the washer in place, it just sort of crushes like aluminium foil.
