Q: What is the difference between a x200 and the x200 AW?

I had the same question, so don't feel bad about asking. First, I don't believe the x200 is a current product anymore. The x200 AW is supposed to be a direct successor to the x200. I own the AW version (and actually wrote a pretty comprehensive review on Amazon on this roller). rather than repeating it, I'll say that the biggest difference is that the AW version has a pull out cover ftom the bottom that will make the roller waterproof.

Q: Does it fit in the overhead on an airliner?

Wanted to make one point in addition to the other reviewers: the X200 AW is the same size as your typical carry-on roller bag so yes, it fits in both domestic and international airliners. What you may want to consider is if you have the tendency to take "puddle jumper" or smaller planes for shorter flights. Not sure the X200 AW would fit in the overhead compartment of these planes or not.

Q: Is the frame of the bag made of aluminum? if not what material/s are used?

I'm not sure what it's made of it is very sturdy. I love this bag I've traveled with it twice already and it is great.

Q: Will this case accommodate a Canon 300mm 2.8? Concerned it will fit, but take up too much room to accommodate everything else I need.

I would think it would fit. I keep a body, 70-200 2.8, 105, 17-35, 5 flashes, 6 pocket wizards, two personal pouches, a 24mm, a pen light, a spider belt and two light stand heads in this bag, with room to spare.
