Excellent outdoor fireplace and heater!
This is an excellent outdoor fireplace. A few logs and it chucks out heat very quickly and effectively. The height means the top of the chimney is above head height when you're sitting down, and this keeps smoke out of your eyes. If you have burning fuel near the front it can smoke out of the large opening, but keeping the fuel towards the back minimises this. The large opening allows the fire to be easily watched (better than the telly!) and allows light from the fire to spread out nicely too.Construction is from fairly thick steel sheet, with heat-resistant black paint which should be easy to touch up as needed. The stainless ring on the top of the chimney adds a very polished look that adds significantly to the attractiveness in day time when the fire isn't lit. Self-assembly is pretty easy, with nuts and bolts to attach the legs and upper sections to the main body.[Oxford Barbecues managed to spot that I had ordered the wrong size of cover, and very helpfully refunded me before sending the wrong one. I've now ordered the correct size cover, as I think the cover will help the chiminea to last longer outside.]

Man, Fire
I have had this chiminea now for three years. It was bought to provide heat for a garden seating area which was started in June 2010. Even before we had laid the patio we had used it and were very pleased with the heat output.Later that year, once the project was completed we used it in both October and November and were stripped down to 'T' Shirts in front of the fire.It is a great focal point for an evening with friends and we have often sat around until 2 or 3 in the morning without realising where the time had gone to. It satisfies a primeval urge for Man to make fire. A 'chiminea' evening has never disappointed. Depending on the amount and type of fuel you load into it, you can literally have the steel glowing red hot = heat radiating the full 360 deg. The design is excellent and the draw on the flue is well designed so that any smoke is blasted upward and away by the heat from below. If loaded with fast-burning wood, eg old fence panels chopped up you can get the flames to shoot out of the top and melt anyone stood too close! As it is steel it does get a bit of rust, but I store it in a shed after use (once it has cooled down) and at the start of each year give it a rub down and respray with some heat resistant paint. After 3 years it is still going strong and has been used already this year recently during the cold spell.

Recently had this so cannot comment about its ability to last although I have taken the advice here and purchased the cover. The only four stars reflects only that. First it looks great. It arrived promptly and was very easy to construct. We are very experienced in patio fires and live on there in cooler evenings. The review that refers to the smoke coming from the generous aperture is quite right but once the wood is burning hot enough without much smoke it is a delight. I think that the opening allows the smoke but we are talking about open fires here and if you burn seasoned wood or compressed logs then if you don't appreciate the experience you should be sitting by a radiator. It's sturdy. It's replacing a an iron Chiminea that was massive, cheap and lasted 15 years until the German Shepherd ran into it. It's now retired. We are pleased with its replacement but the remaining star will only be given if it lasts...

The paint blistered on 1st use + the fire smokes constantly because the front opening is too large.
Overall a very disappointing waste of money! The fire LOOKS the part but that's where it ends. The paint blistered in many places the first time the fire was used. Also the fire smokes out through the front opening all the time. This appears to be because the front opening is too large.

Bought the large size and perhaps the opening is a little too large because it does not stay alight as well as the smaller one does.....

Love it!
Had burners in the past but decided to spend a little more and get a better quality ..... so glad we did! This burner is fabulous, looks really good, lights very easily and the heat is incredible!! We’ve sat out several times this year so far and a few messy night lol with the wood burner on (we live in Scotland!) Which is unheard of usually until June/July! Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this burner - does the job perfectly, we’re very happy with it. Thank you.

So disappointed
I bought this item because it had the tallest chimney and I hoped that it would help keep smoke away from people. Unfortunately the way the chimney piece fits onto the body the chimney is restricted internally to a tiny hole. Thanks to the giant hole at the front all the smoke comes out the front and it may as well not have a chimney at all!The paint blisters and peels off, leaving the steel underneath to rust and one of the bolts that holds the feet on came off. I contacted the manufacturer only to receive a replacement bolt in the post, which is of no use as the bolts are welded to the main body.

Fab chimney
We have had so much use out of this throughout lock down and thereafter. It works fantastically well in our small garden. The shape of it is very nice looking and it gives out great heat. I was a little concerned our dog might be a bit too curious and hurt himself but he keeps well clear of it when it's going - just tries to nick to sticks when I'm trying to build the fire! Definitely get a cover though as it does start to rust if it gets any water on it. Highly recommend.
