Q: Hi could you please tell me the length of the cooking area? I realise that the overall length is 14inch but could you tell me the length of the spike?

The area is about 10 inches if you use the "pushers". If you don't, and remove the "pushers"; then you have about 12 inches. Whatever the case; there is plenty of cooking area. I think there are 10 of them in total.

Q: How thick are these skewers???

These are solid good quality skewers, they are not thin or flimsy

Q: Do the handles get hot / can you turn the scewer with bare hands? Thanks

Sorry, but I have not tried to do this. But these are truly outstanding stainless steel skewers, easy to use in every way. A lot of thought has gone into each detail of the design. Very highly recommended..
