Andre Rieu: Live in Vienna [DVD] [2005]

I bought this for my mother as she loves him. She says it's a great DVD and has watched it several times now.

Like the millions who repeatedly attend Andre Rieu's concerts, in vast settings across the globe, I love this compassionate composer and his perfect one hundred piece Johann Strauss Orchestra. His choice of performers is perfect, renowned opera singers and instrumental performers appear on his stage on every show. His concerts are always uplifting, always. That's why I want his DVDs on my shelves, so easy to enjoy a beautiful performance when I need one. I highly recommend Andre Riue.

THIS IS A SELECT AND STATELY CONCERT HELD IN THE BEAUTIFUL MICHAELA SQUARE IN FRONT OF THE IMPERIAL HOFBURG PALACE IN THE CENTRE OF VIENNA. THE ORCHESTRA WAS ACCOMPANIED THROUGH A LARGE PART OF THE CONCERT BY THE VIENNESE DANCE GROUPS. THEY ARE A DELIGHT TO WATCH, DANCING ON STAGES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ORCHESTRA, WITH ADDITIONAL CAMERA SHOTS OF THEM IN THE BALLROOM. THIS COMBINATION OF DANCERS AND MUSIC TAKES YOU INTO ANOTHER WORLD. THERE IS SOME HUMOUR BUT NOT THE USUAL "PARTY" MODE. HOWEVER, THE AUDIENCE OBVIOUSLY ENJOYED THEMSELVES VERY MUCH. Firstly, this concert is from 2007 (not 2005 Amazon!) and must be one of the first appearances of Mirusia Louwerse with Andre. It is also a rare DVD in that it features all of Mirusia, Carla, Carmen and Suzan( the only other I have is Wonderland). Each of these does a wonderful solo; indeed all the playing, singing and dancing is excellent. Particularly liked the Fledermaus Quadrille and Suzan giving a terrific version of the Sound of Music.The Perpetuum Mobile was very funny. Only bit I didn't like was the "Grinzing" song with Karl Moik. Having said that, the audience, whilst appreciative, was rather reserved compared to most Andre Rieu concerts and there was not the usual riotous finale. All in all very good and would just about squeak in to my top ten Andre Rieu DVDs but if you only want one of his Viennese concerts, the Schonbrunn is a much better buy.

This is the second DVD I have seen of Andre Rieu and enjoyed it just as much. I will certainly try to buy the rest of his wonderful music. Who would have thought the Strauss Family would be popular again in the 21st Century. Other composers also were brought back into fame again and Andre Rieu's wit was evident once more especially when members of the brass section were seen enjoying Vienaschnizel whilst slurping their bottles of beer during quiet parts of a Viennese Waltz. The DVD for me was over 2 hours of sheer bliss, I could'nt even leave the screen to make a cup of tea in case I missed something. How Andre Rieu can stand the non-stop entertainment on stage for such a length of time I do not know.Once again the ladies of the Orchestra wore beautiful gowns which toned in well with the delightful music and dancers.By the time the Concert finished there was a real party atmosphere whereby members of the audience took to their feet and joined in at every conceivable space all thoroughly enjoying themselves. A really good buy.

I have not been able to play this dvd as my player is not working,we thought we had fixed it but alas not so.

excellent value and entreatment

Always easy to watch and to listen to, however, delivery was slow and late due to the time of year.
