With a non-raid one, does the os recognize it as a single disk, or 5 disks? if former, is the big disk linear or stripped of the 5?

The non raid housing will show up as 5 separate drives in Windows OS.

What are the dimensions for the enclosure itself? My desk is almost packed and I may not have enough space.

Can this handle single 18TB drives?

I don't know which unit you are specifically referring to , the 4 bay units state 16tb max , I assume you could use one in the non raid version with the raid any raid requires 2 drives min to make an array

I don't see how they could improve on current design for USB 3. Of course, USB 3.5 or 4 would be nice as would SATA or Thunderbolt.
