I can easily see why a previous reviewer referred to this as ...
I can easily see why a previous reviewer referred to this as 'the Marmite of TV shows'. I suspect that he is right. You will love this or hate it. Also previously stated is the fact that Elizabeth Debicki carries this programme. I actually think that it is brilliant. According to the Wikipedia article on the show, it can be put into the genre of 'Tasmanian Gothic'. I don't remember Debicki actually smiling throughout all 8 episodes. This reflects the fact that there is little or no humour at all. Truly Gothic. Set in the beautiful Tasmanian countryside. Just about the definition of Tasmanian Gothic, then (I refer you to the magnificent organ of all truth previously mentioned).Dark, humourless and with many unanswered questions. Also, difficult to watch. I had to watch the first episode twice to ensure that I was sure of the basic premise (this might have something to do with encroaching old age!!). But, for me, well worth it. Yes, there are 'red herrings' and complicated plot twists as yet unanswered. I hope the promised series 2 will give some of the answers. The 'present day' action takes place over a relatively short period of time, with, except for Debicki's character, little of the past intruding. So, little room for character development. I would suggest that the ending shows exactly why we see little of Anna's character; hopefully this will be rectified.I have to agree that this is a little slow in the middle episodes. I also would have liked to see more of Anna in London, to give a 'baseline' for the character. But overall, I loved this. But, I do love all aspects of Gothic literature, and I found this very rewarding.

Quite good especially Elizabeth Debicki, if strange & unresolved
Australian series but set in Tasmania, whose temperate climate and landscape of wooded green hills are different from the Australian mainland. Generally good acting, especially from the tall, talented Elizabeth Debicki in the lead role.'The Kettering Incident' divides viewers. We have interrelated stories of conflict between loggers and environmentalists; suspected police corruption, long-buried family secrets stirred up by the return of someone who left years ago, an unexplained disappearance, strange phenomena in the woods, and some even more out of this world things. While most of these stories: realistic crime story, small town soap opera, mystery and science fiction are done well in themselves, they feel as though they belong in different programmes. They somehow do not harmonise.Perhaps for that reason this programme was cancelled at the end of this Season 1 with most things sadly left unresolved. Even so, I am glad I watched it.A more recent series set in western Canada 'Tin Star' has some resemblances to 'The Kettering Incident', but without the science fiction element. However, 'Tin Star' is also a little less original and less memorable than this strange series.

Beautifully filmed, must give it that
Beautifully filmed, must give it that. But after the first 30 mins it already starts getting exhausting. Tense (not in a good sense), full of dislikable characters and always prone to come up with hilarious sci-fi elements whenever you tend to think it might eventually be getting somewhere. Whoever was in charge of the confusing storyline – get help somewhere. Waste of (life)time.
