Cleanup is super easy as well
One of the most frustrating problems when making waffles for our family was the long time it took to make enough waffles for everyone. This incredible Gourmia Waffle maker cuts that time more than in half by making two at a time and having such a short "ready" time that making the waffles is a breeze. Cleanup is super easy as well. It comes with a recipe book as well - I cant wait to try the "Sweet Potato Pecan Waffles with Bourbon Maple Syrup!" This waffle iron is an incredible value and would be worth it at three times the cost.

Caught fire on the third use.
Well guys, all I can say is that this is what happened on this units third use. Purchased on Prime Day. Like previous reviews have noted, the first batch tasted a little off even though I washed the plates first. The next time it was used, waffles turned out great. This morning my Gourmia turned into a sparking, flaming arc welder.Maybe I just got a bad one… who knows. I will be contacting customer service and will update this review according to their response. So far my experience with their product ranges from yuck to “Hey! This thing makes great waffles!” To having to air out the house on a Sunday morning. The grandkids were disappointed.UPDATE: I contacted Gourmia customer support today and in short order they cleared me for a replacement. I give five stars on their customer support. I will update the review when the replacement arrives.

Works great right out of the box...until it didn’t.
We love this waffle maker. The first one was defective and the company responded within a few hours with directions to replace the unit. A week later, the new one arrived and worked great right out of the box. Love the removable plates. I pulled them out, washed them, and then sprayed with a non-stick cooking oil, replaced them and heated them up to condition them. Each time I lightly spray the plates prior to use. Be sure to read the directions. The lights on the unit are somewhat counter intuitive as the waffle maker is up to heat and ready when the light goes out. 4 1/2 to 5 minutes results in a great waffle with a basic mix.UPDATE: After only a half dozen uses, a heating coil arced against one of the waffle plates shooting out sparks and smoke. I immediately unpluggged the unit, allowed it to cool, and the inspected the damage. There was obvious damage to the heating coil and plate at the point they arced. I decided to request my money back since this was the second faulty unit. Customer service was great and offered a prompt refund. The few waffles I made were good, but I question the overall build quality. Still rated a 3/5 because it made a great waffle and the customer service was top notch.

Cheaply Made.
Broke first time I used it. Poured batter, closed lid, about 3 minutes later, I hear a "bang", and something hit the floor. It was the handle, broken off by the pressure of the waffle batter expanding. Nice idea, Cheap made.

Plastic handle broke off during use.
Only used it twice and the handle came right off in the middle of making waffles during the family Easter party and I burnt my hand, was unable to reattach the handle, and ended up having to make pancakes with the waffle batter not even half way through because the waffle iron was unusable.

It does not have a timer.
Used it for the first time this morning. FYI, 6-7 min makes the perfect crispy waffles, but you have to use your own timing device. THIS DOES NOT HAVE A BUILT-IN TIMER. In product description, they say "This waffle maker features LED power/ready lights for easy monitoring", however those lights don't do anything real useful. The red light only indicates power on. The green light indicates that the maker is warmed up to start making waffles. It does not indicate that the waffle itself is ready. There is no indication that the waffles are cooked to your desired consistency. You have to do your own timing for that. Like I said above, 6-7 min gives you crispy waffles, which I find best. Overall, it cooked the waffles fine, just wished it had a timer of its own and the product description about the lights wasn't misleading.

Easy Waffle making!
This Gourmia Belgian waffle maker is fantastic ! My favorite feature is the non stick plate - it was easy to remove and clean. The spill tray underneath made it easy for batter spills and clean up. The bonus cookbook is giving me some great new ideas! Great purchase and makes for easy waffle making.

Generally good dual waffle maker, but a few features take some getting used to
I purchased this to replace an old double-waffle maker that eventually wore out. My husband and like the "double" feature so that we can both eat breakfast at the same time. We chose this particular Gourmia product in part because of the sleek look and good reviews. This waffle maker is definitely more attractive and lighter than our previous one. It also adds the bonus of a dripping trap at the bottom (really just a removable plastic plate, but does cut down on mess) and removable plates. But there are also some differences. The main issue is that the "ready light" is confusing--it really only signals when the waffle iron has warmed up (and even then, not consistently), NOT when the waffles are done. So, you will have to set a timer/keep an eye on the time when using this. Also, there is no temperature adjustment setting, so the "done-ness" of the waffles can only be varied by varying the length of time. After using this machine twice, I am still trying to adjust to it. In addition to the timing (mentioned above), the main issue I am having is finding the correct fill level. For me this is tricky because the plates on this iron are significantly shallower than the ones on my previous waffle iron--so, even when I think that they are not overfull, they are eventually leaking. Hopefully I will be able to get this right in time.Overall, the waffles I have made have generally turned out well. The first time, I used the exact "Buttermilk Waffle" recipe from the included booklet (which has both traditional and savory waffle recipes), but the second time, I altered this recipe somewhat. I did have a problem with just one waffle not seeming to cook on both sides, but most of the waffles have been fine. I hope that as I become more experienced with this product I will be even happier with it.
