Zyliss Egg Cutter

Most Zyliss kitchen accessories seem a little more expensive than alternatives, but they always seem to exude quality. This item is no different.I have only had it a few days, but I eat boiled eggs quite often, so I have tested it out quite extensively. As with all slicers of this type, I can place the egg on its side or on its end, for different shaped slices for sandwiches, or use the 4-wire cutter to create wedges, for salads perhaps.You can even use both cutters at once to sort-of dice an egg (I say sort-of, because it creates smaller chunks, but they are not really cubes or diced).The only "feature" that I feel is less than it could be, is the small spike - designed to allow you to pierce an egg before boiling it, and thus avoiding a possible split shell in the saucepan. (I have uploaded a photo of that feature).The intent is that you would pierce the less-pointed end of the raw egg, where the ink-stamp is (used to be Lion-brand, but I am not sure what it actually is now - I can see the red ink smudge but not read anything clearly). The spike has a spring-loaded red plastic disc around it, you place the end of the egg on the disc/spike and GENTLY push. The spike should pierce the shell, and the red plastic disc should reach the end of its travel, and prevent the spike entering the egg too far.It worked, but it felt quite awkward to use, and I felt as if an extra 1mm in the length of the spike would help.I do not usually boil my eggs in a saucepan of water, I use this electric egg boiler:  Lakeland 6 Hole Egg Boiler, Poacher & Omelette Maker  and with this there is an egg piercer provided, that I find much easier to use.(I will admit I never used to pierce the shells before boiling them, in the days when I used a saucepan, but it makes sense to do so, and avoid a split shell and a saucepan full of egg-white - hence I guess why the piercer is included here on the zyliss slicer.)Overall I am very pleased with this slicer, and I don't see why it should not last a lifetimeI have found that the wires cut cleanly, and so far I am extremely happy with this item, and I would recommend it.

I LOVE this item!It is well made and offered at a very fair price. This particular egg slicer will cleanly slice your boiled eggs in any of three 'patterns'. Straightforward, as you would expect so that the resulting sliced egg is immediately ready for sandwich filling or for salads. For those who like to go 'finger-dipping', this slicer will slice into quarters...so the dippers can dunk their quartered egg into their favourite sauce/condiment. and the remaining facilitywill slice your egg into wedges, ideal for salads and mayo-dippers!Its final-but so far unsung facility,- is its built-in piercer. This allows you to pierce the egg's shell prior to boiling,....and thus avoid the egg from exploding whilst cooking-in-the-pan. After all, who wants to have to clean up a kitchen from the messy fallout caused by the bursting of an exploding egg.In view of the clever design, the facilities it offers and the high quality of manufacture, I believe this price is very fair...and certainly not 'expensive' for the very good quality being offered

Nice & compact. Good quality. The slicing is excellent, however I’m disappointed with the quartering function. I’ve tried putting the egg in at an angle as recommended, but always end up with curved uneven eggs. My last egg slicer was a longer design & performed both functions excellently. Would love some advice on where I’m going wrong.

Product is of ingenious design keeping both cutters in one holder, cuts well and wires line up with slots without any sloppy movement. For egg mayo I suggest using both cutters together.One huge complaint WHY IS THE DELIVERY BOX LIKE A WARDROBE so wasteful Amazon !

Works well as intented and no problems washing in dishwasher.A bit pricey but reading other buyers reviews of weak wires and cheap plastic frames led me to choose this.No probs so far

What a ideal egg cutter

I bought this to replace an old favourite for the last twenty-plus years. Hopefully it'll last as long. Good solid-looking product, so i'm hopeful.
