Don't drink and measure
Ok, this thing works but you will have some difficulty trying to figure it out at first. The easiest way to explain it is; stand in front of the wall you are going add the crown to, disregard the other three walls at this time. Grab a liitle piece of painter tape and place it on the wall just below where the crown will go on each corner of that wall. Bear with me now, your right hand will point to what will be your inside left cut, mark the tape to say IL (inside left), your left hand (still standing in front of the wall your working on) is now your inside right cut, mark your tape IR. So in short, your right is your left and your left is your right. Please refrain from adult beverages while trying to figure this out. Most importantly "crown is cut upside down" You have to drill this in your head or like me, you'll waste some boards and then have to drive all the way back to town to replenish. The same practice applies to outside cuts. Crown molding has the decorative side down which is usually the largest beveled edge on the back of the board. When cutting crown remember to measure at the decorative edge. If you need 6 feet of crown on your wall, measure the crown at the bottom six feet which, your mark will be at the top of your board when you bring to the saw because,,"crown is cut upside down" The unit is sturdy enough but you will need some support for long boards, Make sure that when you cut long boards to make sure your board is level,. take the time to break out your level and stick it on the top of the board you are about to cut because if you don't, your angle will be off and it will not make a flush cut.Hope this helps!

It is a help but like your gps in the car, you also need common sense.
Like others said: had to sand a little so not wiggle, it helps if you have a roller stand on both sides, if cutting on the right side of a saw with laser, alow a extra 1/8" and remember the rule "measure twice, cut once" , your cutting upside down and think, think, think. And this is coming from a person who have only done 3 crown molding in my life. I referred to the instructions a lot.

Watch your orientation
I decided to make some test cuts and nothing lined up. The cuts were good but the trim pattern didn't fit together properly. However, I finally figured out why. Because this product requires you to cut the piece upside down then your cut orientation has to be adjust likewise, meaning for a left trim it has to be cut on the right and for a right trim it has to be cut on the left. I then made some test pieces and they fit perfectly. I then marked on the test pieces left inside corner and right inside corner. Now when I cut anything I refer to the test pieces and how they are positioned in the jig and which side I have to cut, left end or right end. The jig is great but would be less confusing if the work were position as one would see it installed. The instructions should be more clear as to the orientation of the workpiece. Remember, you're working upside down so everything including the piece you cut is reversed. You have to cut the opposite end.

Bench Dog Crown Molding Jig
It very clearly states that the jig is for 10 inch miter saws and will work on 6 inch molding on the Amazon site description. On the box it clearly states that for wide crown molding a 12 inch saw is necessary. The jig came with bolts for the height adjustment so short that the nuts could not even be restarted on the bolts. Had to go to the hardware store and buy the correct length bolts. It is beyond my comprehension that the assembler could have put the jig together without realizing the bolts were too short. This is a safety issue!!I have a 10 inch Ryobi miter saw and the motor hits the jig on right hand cuts.In my opinion the jig is unsafe to use as designed and shipped. The bolts are too short and the jig needs to be longer.I made my own jig to cut the crown molding. The product based on my experience is junk, I do not recommend this product, buyer beware.

Takes the worry out of cutting Crown molding!
This jig will reduce the waste from cutting to short, or at the wrong angle, etc. Wish I'd had one years ago!

Must have jig
This jig is outstanding! I just finished the crown in my kitchen and it looks wonderful. I suggest you take your time and do the four scrap cuts ( inside and outside corners) to use as templates so your angles are covered. Perfect spring angle every time. This jig is worth its weight in gold. TAKE YOUR TIME and you'll love this jig.
